World War Z - 0/10

Two hours of Brad Pitt and Zombies...need I say more?

P.S.

To be fair, the tweenagers who coerced me into this film absolutely loved it...;-)

I have to agree. I felt it a complete waste of money.

I appear to be on a different page.

World War Z 8.5/10: Did a great job of maintaining tension through the whole film. Intense, scary, fast-paced, and actually no gore. Quite a feat.

Man of Steel 3/10: More Science Fiction than Superhero movie, hindered by a trailer that promised something special and arty only to find it was dominated by CGI-laden utterly repetitive fight scenes that were coma inducing in their over-doneness (within the movie and within the film industry more generally). Would loved to have seen more of the growing up / coming of age story but instead it resorted to the normal reliance of tedious mega-action scenes (time after time after time after zzzzzz....)

Saw Man of Steel 7/10

I'm kinda in the middle on it.

I liked the change ups in the store, and the parts covering Clark's relationship with everyone was great, but the fight scenes were just to long to be interesting. Great you can do CGI. Do you HAVE to do so much of it? My daughter was dismayed at the language too. Daddy why do they cuss so much?!?

Hopefully in the next one they'll focus more on what they did good in the movie (the character interactions) and less of the overdone fight scenes.

Just re-watched Fahrenheit 451 ... 7.5/10

One of the more successful adaptations of a good sci-fi book to film, if a bit odd (American author, French director, made in England/English with a German lead actor). Still disturbing in a time of rebounding fundamentalist intolerance ...

I'm looking forward to it, and planning to actually go to a theatre to see it, first time in a theatre for over three years. Hopefully I won't be driven to kill any other theatre-goers due to my Soft Sound Sensitivity Syndrome. CLOSE THOSE LIPS WHEN YOU CHEW, M*********!

Finally got around to seeing Oblivion. Liked it a great deal. Thoughtful scenario. Fx well done. I need (rather than want) a vehicle like his flying machine.

Cloud atlas. (On video, its a late 2012 release)

I was aware of the mixed criticism. I thought it was fascinating.
9/10.

Mary and Max - 8/10 I'm fascinated by claymation to begin with and this one was very nicely done.

Koyaanisqatsi -- 7/10 on DVD, though probably 9/10 if you could see it in a large theater and take some LSD first ... ;-)

The Incredible Burt Wonderstone - 4/10
Being generous because I like Carell, Buscemi and Carrey, all of whom were mildly entertaining, but overall the movie kinda sucked.

Much ado about nothing9/10

Joss Whedon's take on the Shakespeare comedy. Shot in black and white at Whedon's home in 12 days. Lacking any of the declarative pomposity that kills too many Shakespeare productions. This is about as clean and naturalistic production as I have ever seen, sort of the opposite take from Baz Luhrmann's brilliant operatic high drama of Romeo and Juliette.

Blind Date, Stanley Tucci, Patricia Clarkson

Romantic Tragi-Comedy, nearly a stage play, a ballad.. Playful to the point of absurdity, Charming..

Looper- Bruce Willis, Joseph Gordon-Levitt; in the future, time travel is possible, but predictably messy. Plot is decent, 8/10.

The Wolverine

Despite my female appreciate for Hugh Jackman's gorgeous abs, I have to say this movie is a -1 / 10.

However, my tweenagers gave it an 8 and 9+.

So, obviously. they picked this movie, but got to pay for it...;-/

World War Z

Horrible

Plot, acting, effects ... All disappoint. I can think of no redeeming feature. I deeply regret spending money for this.

The Incredible Burt Wonderstone

5/10

Average movie nothing great or spectacular. Most of the good scenes are in the trailer.

Red Lights - 3/10

Gaping plot holes feature prominently in this "thriller". I thought it had potential, but it failed to deliver anything but disappointment. Acting was good, but the writers wrecked this movie.
