This movie isn't new but... The Happening: -17/10.
The movie was terrible. The plot was ridiculous and the acting was lackluster. It was in some twisted way stupidly hillarious. |

District 9 - great flick for the big screen but I have not been able to eat shrimp or lobster since :(
Amusing to have a "Michael Scott" type of character as protagonist in this sort of film.

Watchmen - 8/10. In some parts, it was extremely hard to watch. I even just not watched at points, but it was a compelling tale none-the-less and was a refreshing change from the usual super-hero movies. A little too long, but if you have a Blu-Ray player/PS3, I feel that it's a must watch. |

District 9- Saw district 9 a while ago, but thought i'd rate it.
Very confusing in the beginning because it immediately jumps into a spiral of events. But as soon as the protagonist's arm changed into that shrimp lobster thing, it was very thrilling.
8.2/10 |

Just watched Final Destination 3D just to get out of the house.
The 3D effects were 8/10.
The Final Destination story 1/10 (no surprise). |

Repo: The Genetic Opera
INTERESTING! Cool filming and editing..the wardrobe is awesome...
8/10...it kinda dragged on..
Featured: Bill Mosley..Paris Hilton...Paul Sorvino and Ogre from Skinny Puppy
Not for people who dislike gore...blood..and operatic movies..
Set in the proverbial "not too distant future...tells the saga of Shilo Wallace, whose father Nathan is the Repo man. What does the repo man do? Well he's something like a boogie man or super hero...If you've got an organ from the organ making co. GeneCo (and you do, everyone does) Then Repo Man is the person they send after you if you don't pay. And trust me, you don't want to miss any payments..The repo man likes his job...and he looks for any excuse to take back your kidneys or whatever organ it is...
(review from amazon)
I enjoyed the singing through out..and everyone sings..I have to say, my least favorite voice during the whole movie was Paris Hilton's...but it did fit the movie.

Duplicity 3/10 - it was long, all over the map, and left me dizzy and unsatisfied. |

Just got a PS3, so have been watching some Blu-Rays:
Prince Caspian - 7/10 - Enjoyable, but bland, and the acting left much to be desired. Still, for a lazy afternoon action flick, it was fun.
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button - 8/10 - A little too long for my tastes. There was about 40 minutes of the movie just around the mid-way point that I felt could have been cut out completely. Got misty eyed at the end though, and for a chick flick, it was atypical. |

Welcome to the PS3 club dude, how about them Blu Rays, I only own one, I feel bad for my DVD player, lol..some movies are worth getting on Blu Ray, not sure about the Curious Case of Button, not many special effects in that one, a decent movie, sort of like Forest Gump mixed with some fantasy. I just saw-
Green Lantern: First Flightlast night, rented it on Blu-Ray, animated films look amazing in 1080p. Oh and if your into the DC universe, you will like the film...8/10, mostly CGI driven, but still a great 2D animated film with a good story.

District 9: Entertaining and thought provoking plot; lots of gratuitous sci-fi violence; outstanding effects; an unusual form of story telling (at least for current genre sci-fi); and the trailer had scenes that never made it to the movie, hmmm. My rating: 7/10. My wife's rating: Is there a negative part to the 10-point scale? |

Yea thats the type of movie to get on B/R for sure. I didnt get it because the director's cut is 3.5 hours long. I Early PS3s had laser burnout issues when playing Blurays for over 3 hours straight. Always kept that in mind although they fixed the issues, if you have the new Slim machine then not worry. But speakin of movies...ironically the one I saw tonight was based on a video game, called Hitman I saw it 2 times before, kind of convoluted storyline makes for a good multiple viewer. 5.5/10 for some good acting, cheesy directing at times, what do they call it, very MTV-ish I guess. |

Watched "THIS IS ENGLAND" last night on netflix/xbox streaming.
Amazing.
There is nothing hotter than a skinhead girl. Chelsea cut, blue jeans and braces. |

Inglourious Basterds--liked it a lot, but it is definitley "out there" so be informed a bit before you go
District 9 -- also really liked it, unique and interesting
Gamer -- couple of good moments, and two or three scenes with some brilliant lighting/cinematography, but otherwise MAN I was so NOT the target demographic for this film
GI Joe -- silly, fun, popcorn flick (wish Xfrmrs 2 had been that fun)
Harry Potter -- story seemed a little sterile to me (unlike the book) and the characters a bit distant (I would have to blame the direction, I guess) but the lighting and cinematography is just masterful.
Oddly enough, I was never for one minute interested in The Devil Wears Prada, but TNT or TBS was airing it, and I channel surfed in and saw a minute or two Meryl Streep's performance, and that alone looks like it will be worth the price of a rental or dvd purchase. I guess she never disappoints, eh? |

Just saw Cat People (1984) while eating dinner.
This movie is awesome! Direction is superb by the great Paul Shraeder. Soundtrack is phenomenal by David Bowie. And the story is just awesome, animal lovers should watch. |

I'm not watching blu-rays just for special effects. Even movies like Benjamin Button, with some of the amazing cinematography in it, is just leaps above DVD in presentation on blu-ray. Suffice it to say, anything I want to watch, if it's available on B/R, I'll watch it on B/R, even if it's some lame comedy. |

K10, your definitely right about Benjamin Button. Great cinematography, bad example, but my point is still that I believe some movies are just as good on DVD. Surprisingly, what I found to be very enjoyable on Blu Ray was the film "Eyes Wide Shut" I feel the Blu Ray resolution just helped add atmosphere to what was already very rich cinematography in that film, without CGI. As for the film, a 10/10 very simple story and hypnotizing film, with the genius Stanley Kubrick at the helm. If any other people saw this film, have they ever noticed the eyes that flash repeatedly during some scenes? interested in discussing this particular film. |

Inglorious Basterds 10/10
Brilliant story, acting, Tarantino at his best, and fullfilled a fantasy, all my family in Europe was brutally murdered by Nazi swine.
Julie&Julia 7/10
Meryl Streep was unbelievable. Too bad that Amy Adams couldn't keep up with her. |

Another thumbs up for District 9 for me. 9/10
About half of the dozen or so people in the theater got up and left, the rest of us thoroughly enjoyed it. |

My wife and I used to watch Julia Child on TV when we were first married. Little else on TV during a Michigan winter except Curling, but I digress.
And my wife met her once and has an autographed copy of one of her cookbooks. So Julia looms large for us.
The movie was so much fun, and Merly Streep did such a wonderful job. The actor who played her husband, Paul, was unbelievably faithful to the real Paul.
Julie & Julia: 9/10 from me! |
