I've seen all sorts of fuses, but my dishwasher died and the inexpensive hope is it's the fuse. However, I haven't seen a fuse exactly like this before and don't know if it's blown or not. Here's a shot. Everything looks physically intact, but it could be the color of the fuse.
Opinions? |

Attach an ohm meter to it (multi-meter etc) and check for 0 resistance/ connectivity through the fuse.
You could also briefly short out where the fuse was to check if everything is working and just the fuse is blown. Use all the typical precautions for working with mains voltages and don't do it for long though.
Though if the thermal fuse has blown, there's probably a good reason why which may well need repair too.

If you don't have a multi-meter, take a new 9-volt battery, and in the dark, touch the contacts of the fuse to the terminals of the battery. If current can flow through it, you will see a minute spark. The 9-volt battery doesn't have enough amperage capacity to blow the fuse if it's good. |

A) Cheap is a compliment. B) I already called him and he can't come until Friday. My in-laws are here and that's a lot of dishes, plus my guess now is it's the control panel and they'd have to order that so I'm looking at Monday at the earliest. I'm just doing some diagnosing on my own. It's not rocket science... :) |

Doc...In-laws = dish washers! They dirty them, they cleam them! Seriously, the repairman will probably figure something out. |

Got any spare fuses in your car Doc? If the blades match up I'd try a one/half amp first and see if it blows. Auto fuses will visibly show if blown. If you've got something smaller than one/half try that first. A warning, as previously stated, if the original fuse is blown, there is probably a reason. Inserting a higher rated fuse may go ahead and destroy the rest of the electronics. Just suck it up and get the dish cloth out. ;)
