This is another key part of it that I've found. 10 images should probably be 10 distinct different ideas/ compositions too - not 10 versions of the same thing, so you might aim to make 36 exposures from within one toss. Don't move on until you've shot them all and have 10 images you'd be happy to share.
The first couple probably come easily. The middle ones are a pain. Often you'll find by the end you'll struggle to stop. That's when you start seeing differently. Take half an hour or longer to really look beyond the obvious.
The process slows you down, frustrates you, makes you re-evaluate what you are looking at and how you are looking. I doubt you'd get much out of throwing the ring and making/ finding one shot each time. I remember being very frustrated/ bored/ annoyed/ ready to quit the whole thing the first couple of times I tried it. That means its working.
Sure - I'll give it a go.

Thank you for the explanation. It's very much what I was trying to say, but I guess didn't manage to say :)
It may be that this is not such a good idea for a month long challenge format. But it could work. The repetition of the same exercise might prove to be frustrating, but also, who knows, we might learn a lot about making pictures in the process.
The one image comes in more with posting. If we repeat this exercise over x number of days, and make at least 10 different compositions each time, it might be valuable to be able to pick the "best" or most satisfying image from each exercise and post it here. That was my original idea as a variation of Patterson's exercise, but I'm having a difficult time explaining it.
Does any of this make sense?
It seems that this is getting too complex to make any sense, or be much "fun" :)

I think the value in the sharing part comes from demonstrating how much there is to see in any given space, so I'd maybe like to see the top 10 from each toss. If we just show one, it might not be as instructive as if we see the range, breadth and depth that is possible or not.
You could always combine the results like this, and then pick the 'best' too ?

Sorry! It shouldn't be though. Toss a ring/ hoop/ dart etc. Go there, shoot 10 ideas. Share them. Repeat.

Yep. Toss your circle. Take 10 different photos of subject material within the circle. Pick one (of the 10) to share with everyone.
Question I have; is this thread going to be the place to post photos? |

LOL!
"You are hanging on by a very thin thread and I dig that about you!"
(a quote from Jerry Mcquire ... your photo made me think of it)

That's the advantage of an SLR. You can change the lens...

Are the photos to be posted daily? If so, I can do Sat. and Sun. photos on their respective days but I'll be gone camping the week of Labor Day and won't be able to post until I return.

Where's the thread for the images in this side challenge. The OP said there would be one by Sept. 1st. Let's get on it slacker :-P
