Yep, me, too. Created is the time I copied the file onto the computer. Modified is when I took the shot.

But regardless, as long as the EXIF in the actual file shows you taking the shot during the challenge, what Windows shows you is irrelevant.

I recommend sending in a request to the SC - go to the Help menu, choose "Contact Us" and use the second option. Attach an original and ask them to check that the EXIF matches the date/time you took the shot.

If so, you're good to go! :)

Modified BEFORE the image was taken.

One more reason for a new camera...*sigh

Thanks everyone...I sent in a "contact us" to DPC and attached a copy of an image I took tonight. Asked them for advice. Hopefully...it will work for them.

Well folks...I entered two challenges tonight. :) Both of my entries are not my normal kind of entry...so it will be very entertaining to see if they work...or if they suck. LOL

Good luck to all from Team Suck on their entries tonight!

edit: stupid spelling!

I've entered both challenges and they have GOT to be doing better than my Still Life AND Soft Focus lol. I'm curious to see if I am getting the brown in Still Life.

Hey everyone. Quick question as it comes down to deadline... on legality for advanced editing. I am pretty sure it is ok, but just want confirmation from my learned teamates.

In advanced... I have taken a photo in raw format. used just one image capture to output 7 total exposure variations and saved them as jpg. Then used photomatix to generate a half assed hdr image which has then been saved as a 16 bit tiff, then sharpened, selected a couple of small things in the foreground and slightly desaturated them so they did not colour shift as much...then noise ninja, resize, done.

My understanding is that as long as it all comes from just one image capture (the raw file) that this is all legal.

yes or no?

My understanding is that's legal in advanced editing, yes:
You may ...
overlay two copies of the same original file and process them differently to enhance dynamic range.

Definitely not legal in basic because you can't overlay multiple layers.

TWOcopies of the original file.

Not so Still Life results are up in the Challenge Results Thread. Congrats to krnodil for the top score, a personal best for her!

Eep, I get to watch scores for my Free Study entry. I think I'll hide in a corner for a week or so.
10/01/2007 12:13:18 AM · #809
whew! I thought I had asked this before...just could not find it. Finally found the message from when I asked this once before. Now I feel better. :)

Hi Ernie,
Yes, you can do this under Advanced. Although the rules say "two" it is
OK to use two or more conversions of the *same* RAW file.

Regards,

kirbic

But I'll have you know even though they are mediocre I love them just as much as my sucky children. I'm very happy with my photos and the one comment I got on Free Study is jonfrommk who is not only positive but gets what I was going for.

Heh, Don. I've got one of my sucky children in the free study, but someone loves it like I do. :)

Could someone please explain what I do on the oobie and yappie nominations? I received an email that I should be doing this and not quite sure which challenges to nominate from.

someone sent you an email concerning nominating, or concerning voting?

If it came from me, the email was about voting - all you have to do is vote for whatever is listed in the email (the ballot) - you would do this by replying to the email (click that link for replies at the bottom of the message) and simply typing out the name of who you vote for.

As for nominations, you can post in the nominations thread anytime you like, for anyone you like, that you feel offered an underappreciated out-of-the-box shot (OOBIE) or made outstanding efforts in qualitative commenting (YAPPIE) - the full explanation is posted at the beginning of that nominations thread.

Please PM me if you have any other questions...

Karen

edit to add that if you received a ballot/email from me, the link to the nominations thread is also in that ballot, but otherwise you could go here

Then I turned them back on. *sigh* So much for will power . . . but still, a pleasant surprise on one, and as expected on the other :)

The Free Study started this morning at 6.2, so I'm definitely perplexed with this (especially in a free study). But I'm not worried, gravity always wins out in the end :)

Best of luck, all!

Best,

Rob

I'll probably post these in "Individual Photo Discussions" as well, but I especially like the input of fellow suckers.

These are, admittedly, just snap-shots.
What I'd like to know is how I can get some detail in Bear's eyes when I do this again.

Today is partly sunny here, Bear's facing east. Can't turn him around as I'd have concrete steps and brick behind him then.

Nice shots. :)

I think I would try using a fill flash set to -1 or so. experiment to see what works best. That will get you the detail as well as a nice catchlight.

I have to have my free study validated. It is sucking along nicely with a 4.5. I'm wondering why they could care so much about a photo that has lots of comments on how bad it looks and my goddness what were you thinking. So will send in the original and they can see for themsleves how badly I suck at post processing. :)
