Ugh - it's been a week now, and I still have not located my card-reader.
Yes, again.

I think it's time to buy a second one. Put Velcro on the side and when you're finished with it, stick it to the wall above the computer desk out of reach of small hands. :-) |

I've been MIA for awhile, but still read the thread at least every couple of days. I'm very glad Kelli is on the mend (hope you got my PM?) and am thrilled to hear that you are finished with your physical therapy, JerseyGenie! Huge congrats on that!
I am very nervous right now. I am applying to jury into the Charleston art guild on Saturday. If I make it, I will have a permanent venue for several pieces as well as access to many, many shows. If I don't, I'll cry and try again next time :-) Thankfully my skin has gotten pretty thick. When I went to get a couple of my pieces framed, I got several offers from other customers to purchase them, so that may be a good sign, I hope. I am also taking a portraiture class right now on BetterPhoto.com, which so far has been extremely helpful. One of my first photos was an editor's pick, so I'm thrilled about that (too bad the lighting was accidental, but maybe I can actually do it deliberately next time, LOL).
Ephln good luck on that new job, and may the camera gods bless you with some beautiful new glass :-) |
Thank You :)

Then comes Xmas...and a macro lens...then Valentines day and a wide angle lens...then mothers day and...and..and..

Yay! Sounds like a very good plan to me, though I think you should advance the various holidays a touch. After all, there's still Columbus Day, Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving, and possibly some made-by-the-greeting-card-biz holidays thrown in there as well. And I think it's perfectly acceptable to have Wednesday be new lens day. They even share a whole bunch of letters and stuff.... |
Melethia..I LIKE the way you think...lol!!! Halloween isn't too far off either...

Catherine, I wish you luck as well, though I think your skill will carry the day. :-)
And for those with a few moments, here is a short tale about what I did on Friday. |

Thanks so much, guys, I MADE IT!!! It was so scary going to pick up my photos and get the results I nearly got sick. The head juror looked like a bulldog and said nothing directly to the artists. I feel very, very fortunate, as there were a lot of very fine artists who have to try again next time. My winking owl photo (it's been my best seller) is in the "First Federal" upcoming show here in Charleston. Evidently they throw a great artist reception so I'm excited about that! My first!
Thanks again to everyone who helped provide photo selection guidance!

Well, I just entered my ribbon winning Still Life with Motion shot! It should easily get the brown. I really like it though, especially as a thumbnail, lol! |

Yippee!
I learned quite a bit about lighting and item placement in my entry, but I relearned that sometimes, starting even 4 hours before the deadline is too late, leading to an entry with a clear color cast. I'll be lucky to slide by with a 5+ score, I think.

I ribboned - yay!
Possibly not quite the ribbon you want, but the collection has to start somewhere. |

I meant to congratulate you, Peter, but just hadn't had the chance yet. Congrats! A ribbon is a ribbon, even if it's unofficial and virtual! :-) |

As you may recall, I must have a weapon to go to dinner, but cannot have a camera. I should maybe try to convince them that a Canon is a weapon?? Hmmm... no, probably not, since I think that's why cameras aren't allowed. But that's the lead in for this evening's mini-story from the back of the front and a reason as to why this story has no pictures.
Last night I walked over to the little dining facility (fondly called a DFAC) closest to my living quarters. There's a small canal next to it where little fish live and you can see them swimming along. Then for dinner they had, among many choices, a Cajun shrimp dish, cornbread, apple cobbler, and homemade lemonade. On the walk back I saw an actual coyote, pretty good sized one, heading across the dirt road where I was, then as I walked past the containers he had just passed, there was a rabbit sitting just as still as it possibly could, obviously counting its blessings that the coyote either wasn't hungry or somehow missed the fact he was there.
Tonight, at that same lovely small DFAC, they had a brass quintet of Army musicians playing during dinner. Damn nice, that was. And at dusk, when you leave that little DFAC, you can go across the road and sit and watch the bats come out over the lake.
So while the booms are annoying, it's hot, there is no golf course, and the dust is everywhere and unavoidable, there are good things about here, too.
I now return you to your regularly sheduled photography discussions. :-)
