Just thinking out loud, really, but ...

Amongst my favourites there are three images that really stand out for me, even above the other favourites. I'd like there to be some way of acknowledging that fact.

I'd like to have an extra category of 'top favourites' or something - preferably with a better name than that. This would be a list of my absolute favourites from the site; the ones that really stand out for me.

That list should be a maximum of 5 images, to encourage the replacement of images in that list rather than the addition of more and more, as currently happens with the simple faves thing.

I'm sure the same old images would still top the statistics, but that's kind of inevitable.

Looking at other users favourites, when there are up to 1000 images, is almost useless these days.

I like this idea!... maybe a type of showcase that you could display on your profile page as your 5 best fav's.

I would post them here, but I don't want this to be just another 'post some pictures' thread.

The idea is to encourage a 'cult of image' as opposed 'cult of personality' process.

It'd be really good if it wasn't part of the statistical side of the site at all.

Perhaps something like this:

Make the favorites page contain two states (i.e. browse and manage) similar to how it works when you go into your own portfolio. When you switch over to manage mode you get the check boxes appear below each photo. When you check one it moves that photo to the top on a special row called Hall of Fame Favorites or whatever. Maybe make that title customized so that others might want to show their 5 funniest photos or whatever.

Maybe also add a sorting feature so that you can move the photos around in the 5 slots. Once you have your 5 any future ones you add will knock off the photo in the 5th slot.

You could then have a page that shows other people's top 5 lists randomly.

Instead of incorporating this into the Favorites page, how about the ability to flag up to five photos which would display on the photographer's Profile page, along with the most recent entries and portfolio uploads?

I really like this idea, too. It would give all of us the opportunity, indeed actively encourage us, to showcase others' work. Excellent idea.

I don't have any favorites in my favorites. My favorites consist of images where I believe the photographer nailed it. They're all equal. Nothing gets in there that doesn't completely wow me.

Perhaps people should be more selective in their favoring.

I, personally, like having my profile page with only my images/thumbnails. Not that I get a lot of profile hits, but I'm certain that family members and friends (read: non-dpcers) would easily get confused as to why there are amazing shots of Iceland in my portfolio -- when I've never been there. :-)

That being said, I dig e301's recommendation (with yanko's enhancements)...as long as it remains on it's own page within my profile.

Yeah, come on people. Your favorites do not meet the favorites challenge unless they are all equally perfect. DNMC!!!
