I am in some desperate need of some nice wedding packages. Anyone have any suggestions. I am meeting with a wedding planner and her client Sunday, and she want to know how much I charged. I never did a wedding before though. I have a nikon d50,d80,sb600,and two strobes, and a 5 and 1 reflector. Please give me some information!!! 500 dollar packages, or 800 dollar packages. I am in desperate need!!! |

My prices are a tad on the expensive side, but take a look at my packages.

We are new to weddings so our prices are on the low side. We have a base price for the day and then print packages they can add on.

I'm not trying to single anyone out, but this comes up so frequently here I think it warrants a discussion of sorts...
Your package prices and everything else associated with fees for shooting a wedding should be sorted out BEFORE you start taking wedding jobs... don't ya think?

I also want to add that you should check with other local photographers. Check there websites. You want to know what the local market is. |

As a side note, you may want to proof read your webpage as it has several misspelled words on it.

I seem to hear the Jaws theme song as prof fate slowly finds this thread.
Just kidding, I love your advice prof and many need to hear it.

For me that would be under my ala carte. And it's pretty high, especially when you start adding options. Why? Because I'd prefer not to work that way. If you notice my 4x5 (I don't do 4x6 anymore) are prohibitively expensive too.

I was looking at your prices, and noticed the only difference between basic and deluxe is an extra 8x10, and it's $600 dollars more? Is there supposed to be something else with it? |

thanks I had overlooked that. OK here's where that error came from. I no longer do albums of actual prints. I'm doing printed books. It cuts down on people buying the lesser packages and having enlargements done.
I was guaranteeing a certain number of prints with each package (deluxe more than basic). When I took the prints off I forgot to fix that.
Thanks.

I'm with you...*covering my stuff with a tarp for when it hits the fan*
Originally posted by Jmnuggy: Just kidding, I love your advice prof and many need to hear it. | I have begun to agree with this statement...the prof's advice is like shooting whiskey...at first it burns and you grimace and vow to kill the SOB that gave it to you...but after a few more shots it isn't that bad and you realize its wholesome goodness and that it is just what you needed! Then you look forward to a few shots here and there and love to watch people's faces after receiving their first shot of it!

Honestly, if you don't know at this point, you really don't have any business meeting with anyone to discuss actually shooting a wedding.

Um, then don't start with this as your first. Go assist a wedding photographer, first! |

Yes, but you are technically working for the bride and she might care. This is a horror story waiting to happen.
I recommend reading the New Wedding Photographer Guide.
