I'd turn my scores off too but my images this week were SO poor I didn't even enter them - GRIN!

That's the one thing I learnt about myself this week - that I have the courage to NOT enter even when I desperately want to.

Both the Surprise Free Study and the Rural Landscapes I had images for, worked them to death and then just couldn't get them right - right up to the last minute almost on the Free Study I had my entry in, because I was scared of how I would feel if I didn't enter - well I pulled it out, and today's one just in time and even though I feel like I'm missing the action this week with nothing to update, I'm truly glad I didn't put up images that were not worthy or me just to compete.

This site is SO WONDERFUL - but it does press buttons in me that I clearly have to evaluate and work on - SMILE!

Now enough about Me - GRIN - glad to hear you're feeling the LOVE! You DESERVE IT!

Hi Sherryl,

don't let it get you down, I'm running a 5.12 and a 5.14 in the two challenges this week, but hell I don't really care.

You shouldn't read too much into the scores, just go on shooting what you like and enjoy yourself. Focus on the fun parts, if it isn't fun then don't shoot it. I long since gave up worrying about what other people think.

Keep up the good work you are a valuable asset to the site in more ways than one.

It's things like this that make me scared to enter any of my work!

While I feel that it's the next (and necessary) step in my photography, I fully expect to tank for a while. But hopefully, people will give me honest feedback which to me is way more important than some numbers. Plus, if the customer is happy (or for us non-pro shooters, if we're happy) with the outcome, what difference does it make?

Hopefully, I'll have a chance (and courage) to go out and get some good shots this weekend so I can enter my first photo.

'The one thing that hopefully will keep me going, is that, I still LOVE photography and DPC, and everybody here.....'

...and we love you too. So, please continue to share your passions with us: don't take you away from us. It's not all about the 'challenge', it's about photography. There is much more here beyond the challenge.

That's right! A low score does not mean there is anything wrong with the photo. High scores all the time is a sign of a boring photographer with narrow focus. This is not you!

I hear ya, shez. My July FS ws one of my most favorite shots and it scored horribly. Don't fret. It's only a photo. ;~D

Leaving your beautiful photos aside, what I would like to comment on is the dignity that you carry yourself with.

You enhance this site week after week with your gentle kind words of encouragement to those who are feeling sad...your insight into the human nature gives you the skills to mediate some very contentious posts with kindness and a touch of sanity.

You are much more than your beautiful photos and they are stellar. Sincerely, Maggie

Now I am off to hack into this site, find the trolls that gave you low scores and stuff their belly buttons with copious amounts of itchy lint!

Hey... Hang in your spirit and optimism has added so much to DPC.. I know it can be disappointing.." Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder" not everyone see's what u do. Don't let this be a measure of defeat..

In the same boat receiving the lowest score yet If that's any consolation..

We love you:)

You're a great photographer, hang in there. I do know how you feel though...I've had my 3 lowest scores since I started in the last couple weeks. I like the shots though (well most of them) so I'll keep on going! Don't give up!!! :)

You're not only a terrific photographer, you're always a friend and a breath of fresh air. Do not let this get you down. I get extremely frustrated more often than rewarded, yet through the terrific people here like Team Suck and the friends I make in side projects, I hang in there.

Last challenge,Children's Toy, I got a 4.7424, and I haven't had a 6+ in over four months. Now all of a sudden, I've got two 6+ entries running simultaneously! That's a new personal best for me and I'm thrilled!

Just keep your friends close, grumble and gripe at the bad scores, and remember that it can turn at any time.

Besides, you can't retire, we'll all bug the sh*t out of you 'til you come back!......8>)

Sherry Shez Shez!! you are not going anywhere, my dear...look at how many people will be sooo sad if you do!
(and I know you do not like to make people feel bad!)

Life,(and DPC) will sometimes hand you lemons; well, then make some lemonade, take a long cool drink of it, and out you go..back to it!!

Now,
GET OUT & CELEBRATE YOUR GREATNESS TODAY!

doctor's orders!! :)
XOXOXO
~Anni

First, if you don't like scores, just stop entering challenges. There are plenty of ways to participate here without them.

But also know that your experience isn't uncommon.

I've had my second-best and second-worst scores going at the same time. Twice!

Earlier this week, I had a 6.3 and a 4.8 at the same time.

sabbatical, come back (to challenges) when refreshed. :)

Sometimes a small break can do you a world of good. Get refreshed and rested, come back strong! I have done this on several occasions. Of course the difference between us is that my intended audience is me, I shoot for myself more than for the voters. The votes mean very little to me.

Shez,

If you want a pick-me-up, just go to my profile and check my most recent 10 or so challenge results :-)

Oh Shez...you can't retire! Take to heart what everyone thus far has said about your work and realize that the scores are representative of the small number of voters (compared to the size of this community) and they are VERY subjective at that!
You do amazing work and are a site fave to many of us. If you like your photos, who cares what the voters say...it's what YOU like! You've brilliant stuff!
No retiring allowed! We need you here!
Love from Texas!

It is way passed midnight here in Australia, and I am exhausted, so finally off to bed.
Just a quick thank you again, as you totally humble me, and I feel so grateful.....
Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day for me, and for everyone.....

I may have a 6.6667 in the speed study, but the only positive comment ive received so far is from you, sherpet... what would DPC do without you?
08/15/2007 02:25:49 PM · #47
Enjoy your retirement, re DPC.
08/15/2007 02:30:24 PM · #48
cheer up dont let it get to you like said above low scores dont mean anything...

lol besides your only winning a 72dpi ribbon
08/15/2007 03:27:59 PM · #49
Aren't there "Moan and Cry about the mean troll voters and the unjustly low score" threads already out there for each and every challenge? Why create a special one just for you?

If your score affects you so much, perhaps you should retire and re-evaluate why you're doing photography in the first place.
08/15/2007 03:45:19 PM · #50
If you are honestly stressed out about scores for digital ribbons on an online messageboard to the point where you just cant handle it, I think you have a bigger issue to uncover then why people dont one of your pictures.

How seriously people take some things on this site boggles my cranium.
