Man that sucks. I always worry about the time stamp thing and make sure I look at that when plugging in the camera settings in the submit page.
As for the exif idea, I don't really get the point of requiring it upon upload. The SCs will still need to see the original when validating so what is the point of having it in two places? Besides that data can get wiped out by copying and pasting pixels into a new file. I do that all the time for various types editing one of them being HDR which to do it legally (i.e. one file only) requires that you strip the exif data to get it to work.

I think it was meant in a helpful way...
Originally posted by Brad: Parsing the EXIF during uploads for the site as a whole would be a great addition, and in the case of challenges, if no EXIF is present, as in a Save for Web scenario, a pop-up could come on screen in the process, nudging the member to make sure the time stamp on theirs is valid, and a click to proceed. If the parse indicated an out of date image and gave a warning on screen, much as it does if an image is not of the correct file size and/or dimensions, it sure would save a lot of embarrassment later, not to mention how much forum space will be saved. ;) |

Option number 3:
Don't require the EXIF, but parse it if it's available, adding warnings if it is not. Much as Brad suggested.
However, allow for a larger file size if the EXIF is there. If the EXIF isn't there, only allow 150K (or whatever) for the upload.
Basically, don't penalize submitters for submitting the EXIF.

Jeff
I am beside myself for you. After all that work to be caught out by a bloody machine must be infuriating. I am so sorry for you. It was a brilliant shot and you have my admiration for it.
Better luck next time - check your kit! |

I am stuck in the dark ages and using PSP 7.....no options for saving EXIF.

Jeff, I can't believe you shot that back in 2005, and in a fit of feeling triumphant, you waited 2 years to upload it!!!!
Just kidding, hope all is set correctly and good luck with upcoming challenges |

Jeff, If it is any consolation I still consider your shot 1st and mine 3rd. Congratulations on a great shot and remember you won "fair and square" even if it isn't official.
