What do you think the odds are of a picture that isn't insanely processed doing well? Do you think the voters might vote a picture down if the taker didn't take full advantage of the editing rules? |

Very good odds, if it's a good image.
Check out Larus's entry for the sky challenge, according to him it was edited under the advanced rules-set. If it's a good photo, it will do well anytime.

If it doesnt look like digital art people won't know the difference between expert editing and the advanced. I know it looks like a big job to you, but that's because you've been looking at it from start to finish.
I think the main purpose of expert editing is to enhance photo's you would otherwise be unable too. The finished project should look like an ordinary photograph, even though it can be completely different from the original(s).

During the expert editing Sci-fi challenge a photo that didn't rely on the expert editing to the red ribbon!

Well, this is all good to know. I think I might have been able to get away with my free study shot in advanced editing, except for this rule.
-use ANY editing tool to move, remove or duplicate any element of your photograph that would change a typical viewer̢۪s description of the photograph (aside from color or crop), even if the tool is otherwise legal, and regardless of whether you intended the change when the photograph was taken.
Though I only made cosmetic fixes to things that were already there so I'm not sure.
Anyways, I'm glad a non-supremely-edited shot still has a chance. I have high hopes for this picture. I don't expect a ribbon but IMO it's the nicest looking picture I've ever created. Hurry up end of August.
Edit: No, that means end of summer too. Scratch that.

Don't be intimidated by seeing the 'expert editing', do what you do best and don't feel like you have to trip your image out to compete.
