Either way, it's still better than hockey. ;o)

Gimme five, teammate!))

Perhaps in your eyes. Personally, I find soccer about as interesting as watching paint dry.

I can see how it could be boring to someone. Someone who likes listening to Britney Spears may find Bethoven boring too

Possibly, but A true connoisseur would know that the gentleman's name was Beethoven... and I can assure you that never once have i wasted my time listening to the likes of Britney.

I personally derive a great deal of pleasure out of reading articles on Constitutional Law, but would readily admit that for most, that would be as boring an activity as I find soccer.

I guess you truly don't watch much hockey if you believe that... then again, they could run a 30 minutes ad during a soccer game and you truly would not have missed any action... except all the diving and acting and carrying on of the supposedly injured players.

Ray

Can easily say the same thing about baseball. It's easy to miss an hour and not really much of importance.

At least Hockey Fans do not have to start riots in the stands just to see some action or keep themselves from falling asleep.

No, they entice the players to do it for them.

Why thank you... isn't it refreshing to know that some people actually care.

naw, this is the reason that people stop voting and participating in the forums, and only enter sporadically.... but I guess that just leads to the leaving part, yeah.

One thing I hoped for when I joined DPC was constructive comments to images inmy portfolio, but in the last few challenges the only comments I seem to get are "Nice", "creative" and, my favorite. "cute". I am averaging about 5-7 comments per challenge and of those maybe 2 are at all helpful.

I do like the forums, I have gotten some great shooting ideas and have attended a few GTGs and met some good photogs and good people. To me, these are worth the dues. I am becoming less interested in the challenges since the feedback I get, other than my scores, aren't very helpful. Low votes don't really bother me, but I would like to know why they are low.

I have learned that many members are receptive to questions and I message people frequently about techniques. This again is very helpful.

So, if I can offer anything to those who are considering bailing out on DPC, be more active and engage some of the other members.

My 2 cents.

This goes along with the reason that people hide themselves during voting. If you give an honest comment on how much and why a picture doesn't cut it, or just sucks, you're likely to get flamed in a PM.

I often feel the trick is to realise that the feedback you give is where you can learn more, than the feedback you get.

Comment on images you like. Try to put in to words what it is that you like. You'll start understanding what you want to see in your own photos and eventually it'll appear. It takes some work and introspection - you might just find it while commenting on someone elses' pictures. It's doubtful someone is going to tell you anything interesting about your own pictures by looking at what you enter here.

Nobody can tell you what's missing from your current pictures, other than you. All you'll hear is what's wrong with what you've taken so far - not what you need to take next. That has to come from within. I think that's how people can get stuck in that unhappy valley around the 5.x score point. No useful comments, because the picture isn't bad. It just isn't the right picture perhaps.

Yeah, I think hiding who you are during voting is fine and if people can't handle criticism, then they need to reevaluate if they want to be a part of a peer review site. Likewise, voters shouldn't fear being called out on votes and comments.

No disrespect intended, but I'm not buying that.

For example, in the current Free Study I've dished out 80 comments, and not all of them have been 100% positive - I rec'd one PM questioning my comment. I responded, a couple PM's were exchanged, and all is fine. We still don't agree 100% but the exchange was handled in an adult and responsible manner.

One PM out of 80 comments, and that's the first time in a long time that's happened, and really, even if I rec'd a dozen PM's that were "flaming" I wouldn't care. What's it hurt? I have my opinion, they have theirs, no big deal.
