Maybe what you learned is that it takes effort to create good photos ?

yes, it takes efforts to do anything above average, not only photos.

There are so many things I'd like to say about the nature of this site but I'd get hammered worse than a 10 penny nail.

I think it makes sense for people to leave. I'm sure someday I will leave too. When this site stops providing you with what you came here for, well naturally you would leave. For me, I am here to learn more about photography and improve my skills. Once I feel I am no longer improving by competing in these challenges... well... I'll be leaving. I'm not there yet, and I still get very useful feedback on my entires, so I don't see me leaving any time soon.

For those that are here to win a ribbon, I could see them getting frustrated more quickly and spending a shorter time here. As what the crowd finds fashionable changes, those that are here to win may not like to see their scores go down. I know I have seen some of my poorer shots end up with higher scores than entries that I believe are better quality.

For those people who get "mad" at DPC, well, that is their right. If changing the description of a challenge part way through torques you out, that is just as much a reason to leave as dealing with a challenge description that may not make perfect sense. I feel Langon and Drew are just trying to keep people happy, and since there seemed to be a lot of people upset about the Upside Down challenge, they tried to fix it. But we should all know that you can't make everyone happy.

Bottom line... People will come and go.

Well, I might not have a paid membership right now, but I'm not going anywhere. I feel like I know some of the members here, I like them, and look forward to seeing them at meets and such.

Redbubble looks like DeviantArt to me. I like DeviantArt. I even have some stuff over there, but I didn't learn anything from being over there. Most of what I know about Photoshop I learned from THIS site. Photosig is a site you can learn from, but there's an upload limit, and I find the people over there are sometimes downright rude for no reason whatsoever. Also, sometimes you know a photo sucks and want to know how you can improve it... at other sites, you can't really do that. Every picture has to be rated or scored. Over here, you can get feedback on your picture even if it's not in a challenge. Just start a thread saying, "What could I have done to make this better?" I don't even currently have a DPC portfolio, but I can link to one of my pictures uploaded at imagecave or in my dotphoto gallery, and still get feedback from people here whose opinions actually matter to me. Really, I don't see any other photography site on the web that comes close to DPC in terms of helpfulness and community.

While we are on the topic, my twin fotodude, Brandon seems to have disappeared. Any of you Chicago folks know what happened to him?

i couldn't keep up with the rule changes... plus i'm poor... and i only had, like, 2 fans. :) bottom line is, i like my work, and i would just get a complex with the low scores. maybe someday i'll invest the time again and not take things so personally... but not in the near future. but i'm still around, reading the forums and checking out the cool photos. :)

How can that be? You've not entered a challenge in 2 months and only 9 this year. Of the 9 you've scored over a 6 three times.

That is the lamest thing I have ever seen on here.

Talk about hijacking a thread.............RELAX....dude.

First of all I am not your "dude", and second of all, I did not hijack the thread. The thread was about losing members and who has left and why. What I said was totally in context to that.

Cheers.

AGAIN..............RELAX.............You are not competing for money......just a VIRTUAL BLUE RIBBON........I REPEAT.........VIRTUAL!!!! Dude!!!

Please stop calling me "Dude". I am NOT your dude.

Either way this thread is not about me. I will be here for a while cause I have the duck thing I I like this community.

sorry to hear you are having a bad week. I know exactly how you feel, and I am not even talking about all the crap from here, which just added to all of it.

Don't go and do anything hastily, like selling your stuff, you may find that photography is what helps bring you out of your funk.

Never played and have no interest in the sport. Although it is the only sport you can get in a fight and only be penalized a few mintues and be right back in the game. Either way you were upset about the changing of a Challenge Description and al I was sayiing was RELAX it is not the end of the world. Life does go on whether the decription is cheanged or not. Also you are not trying to win money just acceptance among your peers.
