This one won third in the free study challenge.
This on also won third, in the New Year's resolution challenge.
I like them both a lot, but looking at the dpchallenge front page thumbnails, they look remarkably similar.

Please ignore my incoherent title to this thread.
Evidently, it's not possible to fix a typo in titles.

what did you want it to say? |

I don't really see thewm as particularly similar except that there is light on ice in each...the emotional content is completely different for me. I wonder what you are trying to say. |

Ursula's was taken in Ontario, somewhere near Ottawa (I think) and mine was taken on Lake of Two Mountains, Hudson, Qc. It's only about 2hrs drive from one to the other. Lake of Two Mountains runs into the Ottawa River, so it is not surprising to find similar settings. There seems to be less snow near Ottawa, though. More clear ice.
Congrats to Ursula. I love that picture.

Less snow in Ottawa? Wow, that's rare. I had a friend who went to Carleton, and they referred to Ottawa as "Hoth".
Geek Check. :) |

I was trying to say that at a glance, the photos are very similar. Under further inspection, they are very nicely composed shots. I rembember voting them very highly in their respective challenges.
If a casual visitor looks at the front page thumbnails, they might think they were taken by the same photographer.
It's also interesting to note that a lot of photos here have very similar themes. I found a shot in a current challenge that is nearly identical to one I posted a month ago. I doubt the photographer even saw my photo, and I am not suggesting anything is suspicious.
Just an odd coincidence.

I don't mind getting mixed up with Mariomel - I like his pictures :)))
I think that the similarity comes from similar light situations. Ottawa is only a little ways from where Mario lives, and the light, especially in winter, seems to be quite similar everywhere around here. My picture was taken way on the east side of Ottawa, on the road to Montreal (off the road actually ...).
ADDED LATER: And Mario has a DSLR (greed kicks in)

Yep. We had RAIN in December, after Christmas, and hardly any snow. It was incredibly warm (for Ottawa) in December. Now it's deep freeze, cold, cold, cold, and snowing.
That picture was taken mid-December, on Petrie Island on the Ottawa River, when there was only a little snow on the ground.
