I don't get the challenge details. Can someone explain?
Challenge Details: It's that time of year again. Wish us all a happy second birthday.

That translates into 'include a road sign in your photo'.

Basically road signs was the first challenge of the site, and then in January 2003 they had roadsigns revisited too, so it's become the birthday challenge of DPC. So after this week I shall be scoping out potential road signs for January 2005!

This may sound stupid but what exactly constitutes a "road sign"? Just the fact that it is alongside the road? |

A sign giving direction or instructions to drivers, in my opinion. Take a look through the 2 previous road sign challenged to get an idea of what the voters look for :)

I was doing just that but I thought I would ask since I saw a mixture of things I would and wouldn't consider road signs. |

Wow I guess I have been hanging out here now for a year. This was my first challenge a year ago! Hmmm and believe me this year is going to be much better than last years. |

Check this out. 6 out of the Top 10 photographs last year had Stop Signs in them. I'm going to work on interpreting a Stop Sign! :)
The first Road Signs only had 1 out of the top 10, but it was the winner.

Road signs not signs of business establishments. Correct? Do be careful when taking these picture. Stopping on a freeway or highway is dangerous.

I think so faidoi. I'm pretty sure that road signs are just like stop signs and speed limits, etc. But there was one photo I saw in the last challenge that was a business establishment and no one said anything. So, I think it's just like straight forward street signs.

The first one was also taken by Drew and possibly the reason behind some great Stop Signs in the second round. Having said that, they do have a nice shape about them, and they carry such a global meaning that I guess they are a good subject.
I think I'll try something different this year though. Last year I tried the humourous (at least in my opinion) approach, this year I might try the "attractive / appealing" photo look.

Does it have to be a road for a car? How about a walk or bikeway sign? |

What if it is not so much a sign as a cat? Can I post a photo of a cat? :) |

If a black cat crosses the road in front of you wouldn't that be a road sign?
