Please forgive me for my ignorance De Sousa, ....but how can you view my score? Are you able to view my photograph as well?
Also...as a side note, Ive had several people comment that my photo is NOT considered "street photography" AND after reading through this post....I have seen lots of other people complain about the same thing.
The description DID NOT stipulate that this challenge had to be STREET related....but "features people in candid situations in public places such as streets, parks, beaches, malls, political conventions, and other settings"
certainly there are NO streets at beaches, in the malls, at political conventions.....so low scores and comments for photos that do not feature "streets" is not really FAIR....IMO. people need to READ!!!!

Go look at your statistics on your personal page in DPC. We can all see your statistics. We can not see what your entry is, but the stats about how you vote and how you score in challenges is available for all to see.
And since it is your first entry, we all know what you are currently scoring...
For example - click on your username tmichelle2 and your page will show up and the stats too!

People vote the way they see it. A street photo has a certain 'feel' to it. It may be on a street, in a park, at a beach, in a mall, whatever, but it has a gritty sense about it.
A side note, if your image is really well constructed (excellent and compelling light, composition, feel, emotion etc0 and does not fit exactly into the challenge description, it still will be scored pretty well.

thanks bassbone for your reply.
I understand what you mean about having a "feel" to it. out of the 6 comments I have gotten, 4 are telling me its NOT a "street" shot. the other two say "nice shot" and one even mentions that people will probably vote low cause they didnt read the challenge description.

Scoring well here can sometimes mean trying to figure out what the voter will interpret the challenge to mean. Often voters don't read the description or just don't care. I say just try to take great shots submit what you like.
My shot is not exactly what i would call street but is at a 6.6 with 2 favs. sometimes you just have to wow them to avoid DNMC. this is one of the best shots i have ever taken and still won't ribbon because it is the street challenge. If it was candid challenge it would be at least .5 higher. |

I have NO problem with focusing ;)
Edit: Well, I do have problems with manual focusing with S3, but the photo I entered into "street" doesn't have any problem of focusing :)

thanks for your reply as well Elvis.
I am NOT a stranger to photo contests. I have been on other sites and have won numerous top 3 challenges. This is jus my first challenge HERE.
I understand the difference between street (according to the description) and candid photography. To me, anyway....candids are more or less people WHO KNOW there is a photographer, or is aware of being photographed, not so much in a POSED shoot.
Street photography would be candid photos of people who are COMPLETELY UNAWARE they are being photographed.
LOL maybe i am thinking too hard on this, and i dont think that most of the people who are voting are in here reading these posts.
Thanks again for your comments! I do appreciate people who respond and understand what I am trying to say.
Good luck to you!

Very much appreciated, Jeff - you're my one and only comment so far!
By the way, slow connection and all, I *will* vote this challenge, though I may not be able to comment on all. So far:
You have rated 86 of 216 images (40%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 39 images (18%) in this challenge

Well I got slammed overnight, 10 votes for an average of 3.3 each. Funny thing is I only got one comment. It seems that I will have to learn the dpc game by trial and error since no one seems to want to tell me what rules I have broken.

One thing you can do is post your shot AFTER the challenge ends in a forum thread and ask for feedback.
Oh, and based on my running average (still don't like that feature), my score be fallin'. Still OK with that, though. I'm just delighted to be in the challenge, and delighted to get to vote in it. (Little things make my day.)

You used manual focus for your 'street' entry? |
Yes, I paid nifty 5 bucks to someone, and took his pictures. I had to focus manual on him... it's not like you go out and take road picture from your car, or sidewalk. Think art, think different be creative, even though some people hated my picture, I conceder it an art. One of my favorite so far, and I stand by my decision. I printed out; put on my wall, that picture speaks out more than my other photos.
So, I don't care what voters think at this point, I listen to them, but next time these kinds of shots will stay personal, not for challenges.
yes, I used manual focus. |

My score continues to drift south overnight...
I got some great feedback from jblaylockrayner about my image and an area that could use improvement, but I really thought this was a 6. Alas...

Still not the magic 100 votes where everything is almost settled but that is my score. It had a dramatic drop from 7.00 (at 60 smth votes) but still love it and great comments.
Cheers and good luck.

I'm still north of 5, and way south of 6, but all is well because comments from
jblaylockrayner and JPR made my day.
Thank you both for your constructive help. |
