Thank you! MMM, I think its a fluke because I have taken better pictures than that and they haven't done nearly as well. That, and maybe because I see this scene all the time and pass by it frequently as its practically out my front door. I cant explain my indifference to it really. Its good, but its not one of the ones I have printed up and hanging on my own wall... or maybe its that I have excruciating standards for myself and always think I can do better. :) |

Mine is this one here:
I'm very proud of it and planning to get it printed for my wall. How I got it? Luck pretty much. The dawn light with the fog makes the photo, I usually take the bus to work and I rarely have my camera with me. I had it with me that day and was walking. I was intending to take some photos at lunch time but ended up being a little late for work because the light was just so gorgeous. |

Awesome photo. Thought I recognised those trees, then I read in your description where it was taken. :)

Well, I have six Top 10 finishes, but alas, this was my only ribbon winner (Yellow in the "Even" challenge):

Yes, but 6 of your top 10 have woodies (or at least wood) in them. Now that's impressive :) |

:) No problem being late for a shot like that! |

No, that horizon should definitely be horizontal. |

i've only entered 3 challenges, though... and the 2 that didn't win were not shot specifically for DPC, the one that won blue was :) |

Well......here's my fluke.
It was just about my first challenge since joining Team Suck, my first time shooting RAW; the truck was situated in such a manner that this tight crop was the only way that you couldn't see the P.O.S. truck in front of it, the run down trailer the guy who owns it lives in, and the weather had that weird greyish/green cast to it that you get with a wild barometric shift. I have not been able to get anything remotely approaching this lighting and all since, and this truck sits less than two miles from my home. I've gotten a couple other shots here and there that are in the 6s, but by and large, I'm not a ribbon territory guy, mostly due to the whole timing thing. I get great shots that'd do well......three weeks after, or before, a challenge, and for whatever reason, I do abysmally in the Free Studies. I do have this truck shot professionally matted, framed, and hanging on the wall right in front of me. I may be a One Ribbon Wonder, but I'll take it, luck or skill.

I still wish that kind of situations to happen again.
It was really hard to continue from that success and after the autumn, I had a long pause (too long) entering challenges. I would like to go and shoot just for challenges but that has not happened after that summer/autumn 2005. :( I would also need more time for editing pictures.

Here's mine:
Langdon's Birthday, March 2007
I gotta admit, I was actually strategically hunting for a ribbon in this case instead of just hoping, especially with such a low number of entries. So I thought to myself, "Hmm, how should I go about this?...Oh wait, I'm a chick!" :D
Looking back on it, I had the most fun making the fake tattoo, but it made me really realize that I am going to adore proper lighting and models when I'm finally able to afford them, cuz doing this as a self portrait was very challenging...Mostly because I was using a hot floodlight as my one main light source. While I like the warmth of the overall image, but have now come to hate the yellow tint on the right side of the tummy. Thank goodness I discovered neatimage shortly before I entered this.
Heh, what can I say, a little bit-o-shamelessness = 19222 views so far :P |

My one ribbon wonder was an entry in Seed challenge.
I was shocked it ribboned as I expected a lot of people to tell me DNMC since the subject was not the seed itself, but the critter stuffing his mouth full. I really did not expect to enter Seed. I was out on the back deck and happened to shoot this and during processing decided to shoe-horn it in.
