I now adjust the kelvin temperature and what I see is what I get.

Degrees Kelvin is a way of describing the color cast of a light source. It refers to the temperature in degrees Kelvin of an ideal black body radiator that would emit light of that color. The bluer the light, the higher it is on the degrees Kelvin scale (e.g. a typical 100W bulb is ~3400K, while sunlight is ~5200K) . Sometimes you will hear it referred to as 'color temperature'. I have always found that to be somewhat confusing, as a warmer (as in more amber) light actually has a cooler color temperature.

Warm and Sunny
Warm and Overcast
Cold and Sunny
Cold and Overcast
Light Rain
Heavy Rain

Snow

What problems have you identified whilst using your camera?
For example: âOn sunny days it is hard to see the viewfinder.â

-AI Focus, when it breaks into AI Servo hunts much much more that AI-servo found in sports mode.
-There should be some button on camera to lock focus, as the camera one is hard to find by reaching.
-The viewfinder area in the camera is awkward to clean.
-using the flash is a pain if not in a 'creative' mode.

When taking lots of shots in rapid succession the camera takes a few seconds to catch up. Taking 5 shots etc in the space of a second or two is fine, it's when taking loads it gets slower processing them.

How often do you use your camera? My camera goes literally everywhere with me (MOST of the time anyway!), just in case I see something. Some weeks I only actually use it twice a week, sometimes I use it every single day.

Where do you mostly use it? Both, equally

If outside, please select the weather condition(s) you have used it in:
Warm and Sunny - Yes
Warm and Overcast - Yes
Cold and Sunny - Yes
Cold and Overcast - Yes
Light Rain- Yes
Heavy Rain -No
Sleet -No
Snow - Yes

What problems have you identified whilst using your camera?

This camera is very new to me, and I am not totally familiar with it yet, and have not yet made my own complete âmental listâ of things I find annoying. But after reading the survey results, and thinking about how Iâve actually used it, here is my list for now:

1.) Image preview on LCD tends to be much brighter than the image actually is, and using the histogram had turned out to be critical for me to be sure the photo is not WAY too dark. (This was my first and biggest issue.)
2.) Camera puts images into folders on the CF card. I'd prefer a system that would either put all images into one folder or allow you to start new folders as you change subjects.
3.) Tripod mount doesn't have an additional "locking groove" to prevent the camera from rotating if the screw isn't tight enough.
4.) Would like to be able to disable the flash in all modes
5.) I have not (so far!) found the all the dials/ buttons/switches to be intuitive. Perhaps this will come with time, when I am more familiar with the camera, but right now I have to actively THINK about every single thing I do, and double check that I am setting the right things. I really dislike the âwheelâ and the on/off switch attached to it-find it to be a pain in the butt, but that is possibly because I am so used to the Sony âbuttonâ on my F707, which I found convenient and intuitive.
6.) The weight of the camera combined with my older lenses seems to create a situation where I get a lot of out of focus and/or dark images.
7.) The weight of the camera, and feeling the need to carry extra lenses with me, has actually made me nearly reconsider lugging it with me when doing a lot of walking.
8.) I do not like the Canon software.

Edited to add to my list!

[b]Well, I had an issue with Error 99 and returned that camera. The new one even seems to have a faster AF than the original one, so I'm thinking it was defective to start with.
The recording lag sometimes gets annoying. I was shooting a military parachute jump yesterday and there were times when I was pressing the shutter and getting nothing because the camera was writing to my CF card.
Otherwise, I believe any "issues" I've had were user induced. I'm still battling the learning curve on this camera as it is my first SLR ever (that I've used with any regularity...had a couple of film SLRs but didn't learn them).

Havent noticed this problem on my 10d... what speed CF card did you buy?

[quote=Konador]Hi. For my AS/A Level coursework in design and technology I have to identify problems with one of my hobbies and design and make a solution. As part of it, I need to conduct a survey to find out what problems people actually encounter. I would really appreciate it if you could take a little time to answer a few questions. Thanks in advance.

The viewfinder only shows 95% of the really recorded image

Good luck with your study :)

Main problems are in order of worst to not that bad:
- viewfiner is not very large, would have prefered a larger view
- Inability of switching off AI Focus in Creative modes where camera start autotracking things I don't want it to
- AWB is not very good when under artificial light, I tend to use manual WB often
- Built-in flash is not that great, of only it allows you to swivel it around !!

This will happen with a full buffer. Under normal conditions you generally won't run into it but when you're shooting bursts and you fill the 9 frame buffer you'll have to wait until at least one images is written before you can take another photo.

John,

I appreciate this link but I've printed both pages of the EOS flash document off that site and have read and re-read them over the last 2-3 months. That's the reason I went with the 550EX as it seemed to have more power, more features and be more adaptable as a flash unit. I still continue to have trouble getting good fill flash shots. I've tried the Av, Tv and M modes for fill flash. The only decent results I have achieved have been in P mode (which means regular flash mode for the flash) with a LumiQuest 80/20 pocket bounce unit with no inserts on top of my 550EX or by bouncing all the flash off the ceiling. Someone sharing their personal experience with this setup (EOS 10D and 550EX) so that I could see photos along with dimensions of the room and camera settings would be very helpful. I've conversed online with others who have the same or similar equipment who agree that fill flash or bounce isn't just as easy as put the flash on the camera, set it for Av/Tv and voila you're suddenly getting great fill flash shots.

Thanks again,

Kev

This may be my own thick-headedness but I have shot over 45 Gb of photos in the last 6 months and I get more "Use Fill Flash" comments than any 3 people I know. I use a 42" reflector, the best on-camera flash unit I could find (Canon 550EX) and still I don't seem to be able to knock the shadows off someone's face. A slightly better explanation in the manual of the automatic fill-flash usage in Av, Tv or M modes would be beneficial for idiots like me.
