kinda looks like a sparrow but I don't think it is because of the beak. It mithe help if you said were you saw this bird because a big help to id birds is were you see them in the world...

My first thought was Goldfinch. I'm looking around though to see if anything else has the yellow tummy of that size.

Good idea.. location would be nice. I always assume people are in the US.

Eastern Wood Peewee, would be my guess, so long as you took this picture in their native area.

You assumed correctly at least in this case :).
This has been taken in Waukesha, Wisconsin...I should have mentioned that up front..

they can be found in Wisconsin, according to the guide map I'm looking at, and may overlap with the Western wood pewee, which looks virtually identical.

my guess is that the beak in the picture doesn't look short enough to be that of a pine siskin; and from the guides, the pine siskin has yellow on its chest only when it also has prominent yellow in the wings, which doesn't seem to be the case in this picture. Also there's no "streaks" on the breast in the one in the picture.

It looks like a Wood Peewe to me too after checking some pics of both..
The yellowish tint in the bird's belly may have come from the grass below the fence it was sitting on.
Thanks for all the answers!!

You're welcome, maybe, heh. Those little brown birds are hard! I might still very well be wrong. It's the sounds that usually give the little guys away for sure.

I agree with Eastern Wood Pewee. They are a forest insectivor that would nest in woods in your area.

Siskin is a seedeater, bill to thick and Alder Flycatcher has more white around the eyes.

Just my thoughts.

I agree with the E. W. PeeWee. Flycatchers are tough :p
