At the risk of being tarred and feathered, Karmat speaks the truth, I have submitted questions to the SC just hours before a challenge and gotten a reply and not alot of poeple know me and I have no ribbons and IMO my photos have a long way to go...

anyway just wanted to point out that I dont think that Shannon got any special treatment from the SC...

Well, I understand both sides of this and I agree that perhaps maybe the second request for info could be sllightly more detailed as to what the problem is. Now that I know, I just provided the SC with screen dumps from noise ninja and a layered PSD file of my attempt to recreate the results. I am hoping this will be acceptable and I worked hard to provide something that would help replicate the controversial results.

So hopefully the SC will take a look soon.

With regard to your first point about your attempt to recreate the results: even you cannot replicate your challenge entry. Yes, you got close, but no closer than we did. Many of us spent a fair bit of time attempting to recreate your image to no avail.

I'm curious how Scalvert got through so fast in asking the SC about his one day challenge entry and getting an answer before the deadline. Again, not a personal attack, just an observation that someone pointed out to me.

With regard to this, I think I can help here. Scalvert presented his idea and gave his exact editing steps, in order, with interim screenshot information and we were able to replicate the results easily.

In all seriousness I feel bad that people would attempt to recreate this not-so-good effect on a not-so-great capture. I do appreciate it though.

I don't really have a solution to the "we must be able to replicate your steps and get the identical results" - it just seems like there would be an easier way to say if a photo was worthy of a DQ.

My over-noise-ninja'd images are probably a bad example of the average DQ - but i definitely didn't use spot editing at all -

I would think the goal of a DQ is to say that someone attempted to deceive people or to enhance an image or to remove something that they didn't want there.

Just to clarify... we don't really require the exact steps needed to yield identical results (although that would certainly eliminate all doubt), and the "worth" of a photo has absolutely nothing to do with DQs. The only purpose of validation is to ensure that the rules were followed, and it doesn't matter whether the photo in queston is destined for first or last place. If something looks fishy, such as achieving different looks on similar surfaces using only global edits, then we follow the steps provided and see what happens. If we can get close enough that the edit appears to be possible, then it's validated. If not, then we ask for more specific info from the photographer and go from there. Thus far, we (and you) haven't been able to get close enough to your entry results to demonstrate that it's possible.

OK - assuming I'm good with all that â€Â¦ and let's pretend I actually did spot-edit the photo and I was rightfully DQ'd and suspended and the SC didn't deem me worthy of an exception â€Â¦ why is my suspension for longer than a week? I submitted the image Jun 29, 2007 â€Â¦ and voting ended Jul 10 2007 so this really is another thing that I see as unfair.
FURTHER - I wasn't able to submit last sunday ... then tuesday ... and now I can't submit today (or any day in-between naturally!! More than 1 week!!! I contacted the site admin. about it so hopefully I can get an answer before midnight.

Here's what the challenge entry area reads:
"You have been suspended from this portion of the site through 07/22/2007 for the following reason:
Two disqualifications within past 25 submissions"

Your suspension began on the 15th and ends the 22nd (7 days). It looks like you were suspended at 6pm last Sunday, so you had all but 6 hours of last week to submit an entry for that challenge. Technically, your suspension would end around 6pm tonight, so you could still enter this week's Member challenge if you really wanted to (I'll check to make sure it's lifted at that time).

BTW- the forums really aren't the place to contest DQ's or suspensions, as only the SC or Admins can address the issues. We do sometimes make mistakes, but in this case you complained about being DQ'd because we couldn't reporduce your image legally, and then you couldn't either. Regardless of when the suspension was enacted, it's still 7 days, and you really could have entered BOTH challenges! I would hardly call that unfair. :-/
