| Ive always been told, and always have, stuck to the bigger name brands...maxtor and seagate (there are others) - also, you cna save some money by buying an internal hd, and just buying a case for it to make it "external" |

I bought HD enclosures for $20-30 and made my own external HDs with HDs from retired computers I had laying around (for some reason friends always give me their old computer when they upgrade?).
Now I have a couple more retired HDs coming so I'm in the market for a "tank." It's an enclosure that holds 3-4 drives. you can throw a couple HDs in it, a floppy drive and a CD/DVD drive in it, then run it off USB on any computer.
It may be cheaper to buy internal drives and make your own if you don't have any HDs laying around? I haven't priced it. |

| I bought a Western Digital 500gb MyBook Premium a month ago at Costco for $149 (on sale at the time, reg $169). The "Premium" has firewire port, capacity gauge, and backup software. They also have a 1Tb version for about $350. |

I need to get a tb drive, just cause I feel the need to be able to carry around an ungodly amount of files at any given time.
Who doesnt need 1000000 jpegs witht hem at all times? |

I bought a pair of these a couple of weeks ago:
Seagate Barracuda 500Gb hard drive
External Hard Drive Enclosure (Firewire & USB)
Total for the two drives plus two enclosures plus shipping came to $300. Not bad for putting 1Tb of storage online.
