I know this has come up before, but I would like to make a formal request for consideration...

It would be incredibly useful in print sales to be able to provide the buyer with multiple print ratio choices with each print submission we make. I would like to be able to upload ONE image to my portfolio and then upload three different printable images so that the buyer has the following print choices:

4x5
4x6
8x10
8x12
11x14
10x15
16x20
16x24
20x30

Each of these three ratios would require a separate preview image for the buyer since the crops are different.

Me too! ... although I might not need that full range of sizes (until I get a new camera).

Also, something about ensuring that the previews are better quality -- I've heard some complaints about that recently.

John -- what image size/compression level do you use for the portfolio images you link the prints to? I'm out of space, but most of my images are around 130k at level 7/10 (like I'd use for an entry) -- I could probably compress them down to 40k, but I'm worried how they'd look; if that's what people are browsing initially, they should look as good as possible.

What about letting people rent more portfolio space?

Is there a way to make the photo page work with a link to an outside site, so that a photo could be deeplinked from an outside site, but can be displayed on a standard DPC page? Or is the bandwidth hit worse than the storage hit?

For historical reference, the previous discussion on this request is here.

my priority would be the standard ratios.

5x7
8x10
11x14

A lot easier to find pre cut matte and frames.

General,

I usually create my portfolio images at 580 pixels on the long side. Compression varies depending on the image but I try to keep them at 75k or less. These images look fine when uploaded. The ones that don't look good sometimes are the ones on the dpcprints site. They are generated from the printable image that you upload. There is probably too much compression on those. This could be corrected on the site side most likely.

Having just put my first 4-sale prints up, I agree with the above sentiments, unless there are some kind of severe coding problems.

I would love to have this option also. I love having the 20x30 size, but the 8x12 and 10x15 are nearly impossible to find frames and mats for.

Right, those are what I've heard complaints about. I'll give those specs a try -- thanks.

Thanks for posting this John!
If there is a way to make this happen, I think this would boost sales due to the ease of framing.
What can be done to implement this?

It's something Drew and Langdon would have to sort out.

Thanks, John. A purple shirt taking up the cause is sure to create some action!

My original post caused a minor stir but it never really went anywhere. I kind of let it drop, but I still stand behind it 100% -- less wear and tear on the server, easier to upload, and easier to order. It's win-win-win.

Just wanted you to know that I've read this thread and will make this a part of an upcoming revision to print uploading. Hang with me :(

Thanks for looking into this -- it should really facilitate getting prints ready.
