I got an Olympus Evolt 500 a couple of weeks ago. I have only had chance to take pictures of kids activities. My eldest daughter Netball game and my youngest daughter at a gym festival. I was lucky with the gym as it had reasonable light. I have since tried to take photos at other gyms and a dance concert with no luck :(

so you liking it??? Nice images, you did well. You using the rapid shot?

Once off topic question, have you tried long exposures yet? I'm wondering if the terrible level of noise I'm having is normal. I had it set on ISO 250 today while shooting in a cave and am disgusted with the amount of colored noise.

I hope your camera is working good.

Again welcome to the oly club.

LOl Scott made me laugh out loud with your comment :) Netball is a national sport for girls in NZ ( though there are some boys who play it just like there are some girls who play rugby! ) I guess the closest sport to compare it to is basketball. It is played outdoors in the winter months.

Havent done long exposure yet but when bumped up ISO to take photos at dance concert noise made the images unusable common complaint with the olympus I think.

Great captures on the netball game!

I'm upgrading this winter but will be keeping my Oly for backup. I hate the restrictions I have because of cost of lenses. Has done me well thus far though.

I can't say much for the noise because I haven't done much shooting at night. I have done some shots of the moon and they turned out well considering I only have a 45-150mm lens to work with.

Thats what i hate as a former olympus owner, Noise. Canon owners say Nikons are noisy but comparing them they really arent any worse. Olympus has to be the noisiest of them all with Fuji coming in second althought the F10/30/31 series has done well for poitn and shooots, not sure about their S2/S3 SLR's?. Pentax is noiser then Canon and Nikon but not quite as bad as Olympus. I hope they both get better.

So has anyone got tips on how to reduce the noise?

I haven't tried any night shots since I've had mine but would be interested in some tips also.

Even before I bought the camera I heard it was noisy but I thought it was only above ISO 400, I figured I could stay below that. Really didn't expect it at 250. I have some images in my portfolio 100% crop. Maybe I'll start a new thread to keep from hijacking this one. I kind of worry more about it being dead pixels but don't see them on regular shots.
