Well normally if i see a challenge entry that would get a really low score I dont vote on it, but for the Motivational Poster challenge I changed and voted low on a couple and left my comments and score. This has resulted in one person being upset with my comment, which in hindsight I have to confess was NOT very helpful, so I have looked at that particular entry again, tried to explain the reason for my low vote and now I hope thats the end of it!
So I would appreciate some feedback - do i vote low on an entry or should i pass and not vote at all. What do you folks do?
Mike

Its stupid not to vote low scores, you are not doing anyone a favor by that |

Mike: If your critique is legitimate, you should vote low when that is appropriate -- and of course, vote high when that it appropriate, also. If people don't want the criticism -- or can't accept negative comments -- they shouldn't submit their photos. Or, they should only submit 10's.
You are doing the right thing by voting whether it is high or low; maintain your conviction!

Its not fair on the people you vote high to not vote low on photos you don't like

Yeh I see your right folks - like i said before my comment was NOT helpful and in hindsight i should have explained my reasons. Lesson learned.
Thanks

I always vote 100% on the challenges that I vote on. I leave as many comments as I have time for, but no longer leave comments on low rated photos unless I happen to feel very compelled to say something, since when I did leave comments on them, I got a few PM's or emails from the not-so-happy owner of the photo. It's my feeling that a lot of people say they want comments on their photo if it is rated low, but when they actually get a comment with a low vote, they get very upset.

Just tell people what you really think by voting your low score. If its really that bad they should know and you don't even know them so its no big deal if they get mad!! |

I never put what I have scored a photo in the comments. Maybe leaving out the score would help also. Maybe they will take the criticism better if they don't know what score you actually gave them.

I think it is worth it. How are people going to improve if low scores and especially comments about the low score are not given? In the "edge" challenge, I received 13 glowing comments, and no negative comments. The average score given by those who commented was well over 8....my entry also garnered about 35 votes of 4 or less, but no indication why. I really appreciated the positive comments (don't we all?), but to improve, I need to know why my photo was marked low. Otherwise, I'm just guessing as to why certain folks didn't care for my photo.
I'm very new here, and that's my two cents. |

I always vote the full challenge-good/bad or middle of the road. |

i don't think it's a matter of whether or not to vote low/high but a matter of being eloquent with your comments since they should be insightful and helpful to the photographer [hence the button saying "photographer found comment helpful"].
I got a negative comment on my last challenge and I have no clue what the person scored me, I was upset by the lack of direction from the comment. It was basically a 'you suck' sort of thing, lol, which really helps no one.
