"Photographers must not materially change the content or meaning of the photo with digital manipulation. An image that combines the elements of more than one photograph or has elements removed is not eligible. Minor burning, dodging, and/or color correction is acceptable."
Now that's strict!

On the forms page all it says is "Photographers must not materially change the content or meaning of the photo with digital manipulation." Where do you see the rest of that?

That's for professional photographers. For amateurs it's $12. |

Ah ok. It's still inconsistent though. The Amateur Rules link say what Robert posted but the Professional Rules link only includes what I posted, which is the same when you click on the link to Enter Contest. In other words only the Amateur Rules say that "Minor burning, dodging, and/or color correction is acceptable".

Though if you click to enter, it brings up a registration page with the rules that you must agree to before continuing. There it only mentions the pro contest and fee but does mention about the minimal editing.
I'm glad I'm not good enough to enter this one... I'm too confused already! |

Does submitting to a challenge or posting here qualify as having been published? What about DPCPrints...

Amazes me that they get any entries at all. They want the best photos available to use in their advertising, magazines, posters and all types of marketing and then require a relatively high entry fee. This is a real profit maker for them especially since most if not all the prizes are donated. A great idea from them and a great way for a photog to gain recognition but to charge and then give them unlimited rights to use it. It's just not right.
.
With that said, I just went and looked at 2006 winners. Most are highly processed, many are blown out, many are very good and majority are just good DPC level challenge entries. Many here are better than most winners.

PRIZES:
"1st Prize Choice of 11-day trip for two to Arctic Norway OR 10-day trip for two to the Galapagos Islands. Sponsored by Lindblad Expeditions.
2nd Prize 7-day Photography Workshop for one in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Sponsored by Santa Fe Workshops.
3rd Prize 6-day cruise for two on a Maine Windjammer Schooner. Sponsored by the Schooners American Eagle and Heritage."
shoot, I'd rather have 3rd place over 2nd anyday. Of course 7 days in Mexico would be cool, workshop probably runs all day in doors so you miss out on the culture lol. |
