Hi i have been asked by few travel magazines for my digital photographs. They plan to print my images in their mags. I have few questions regarding this:
1. What are the diff types of image rights and which ones can i hand over to the magazine (rights managed, royaly free etc)
2. How do i permanently maintain rights to my images OR conversly how do i hand over all the rights of images to someone. Is there any in between rights like redistribution rights etc
3. How to maintain legal documents or records if such transfers happen entirely over the web
4. Is there any site/organisation or URL which sets rules for the above issues which are acceptable by everyone
5. Wots better ? Money or Credits ? ;)
6. Any other things i should look for ?
thanks

Here is a link to a group of photographers where you can ask questions about stock photgraphy. Many of the participants have been in the business for a great number of years and they should be able to answer your questions and/or point you in the right direction.
The link.
Hope this helps. Have a great new year. |

I recommend you contact an Intellectual Property attorney (disclosure: I happen to be one so that influences my recommendation) who can help you negotiate a suitable license. But don't be surprised if the magazines have very specific terms that they are not readily willing to change - unless they really want your photos. I've dealt with the publisher of the National Enquirer, some automotive mags, and many others, and have been able to negotiate favorable terms under the right circumstances.
I note you are located in India. If these are non-U.S. issues, I may not be much of any help. I might be able to find a referral from an associate if you'd like.
Best of luck. And congrats on the possibility of getting published! |
