Used it to look up one variation of the rules.

But the way langdon codes helps changes so the background source is always the same this or that.

Which means the background file might get sourced from a newer version if it wasnt cached the page wont display properly. Its on both ends.

You have to love the web archive i first heard about it on the news a few years ago. check out amazon.com way back when.

This is not the version you used a couple weeks ago in our DPL thread...

Our DPL thread is definitely too hot for the DPC general population. We may not be violating any DPC rules in that thread, but something's being violated. ;-)

I thought this quote from the forum page was great!

Yeah, I guess the way I try for things to come across don't necessarily happen that way. Funny how the written word hardly makes the point that a face to face conversation does. I was speaking of the irony of that description that has been there for all these years now, yet make a post as to how the challenge winner didn't deserve it and see what happens.

IMO DPC was better back then.

And I am quite certain that DPC used another background and header in those days.

Yup the BG was not cached, so it goes to the newest cached file with the same name. Langdon used the same name for both backgrounds so....

The beauty of how web.archive.orgs early cache system worked.

I wasn't around, but I'm guessing it was more geared towards friendly amateur competition. Not to take away any older ribbons, but the photos that won some time ago would probably be considered average these days. I'm sure the fact that the site was smaller also made it more of a family.

Look at Azrifel's first submissions. They didnt win ribbons. But even today (submitted 2002) these would score atleast 5's. Around what they scored. I dont think the mid level has changed for some people. Personally i think the early submission im seeing for some users are good.

I have seen some ribbons that blew in early challenges. Heres some fo the first submision by Azrifel.

Yes, that's what I miss nowadays. Altough I must admit that the family aspect still exists, you just share it with relatively less people. That's a shame really. I guess that is why many people like the DPL concept so much. And I am someone who likes to get lost in the past, so ignore me. :)

Here is how I remember it. Feb 2003

You know you've been at dpc a long time when --

* You remember the "panic" that ensued when it became obvious there were going to be 100 (and maybe more, what if it hits 500?)entries every week.

* You know who clay is.

* You remember when there wasn't a SC.

* Entries had to be 640x480 (or 480x640), and no borders were allowed.

I'm sure there are others. :)
