Oh wow, my brand new Canon 5D came a day EARLY! I ordered it 3-day from California, so I was expecting it to arrive tomorrow. But lo and behold my wife just called me here at work and let me know that UPS just dropped it off. This will now officially be the slowest work day EVER! Come on 5:30, get here! So all you 5D owners out there, look out--I'm now with you LOL! Just in time too--I have a photo shoot on Sunday, and I'm expecting to shoot a few hundred pix with the model I have set up to work with. Cool!
And on that note, can anyone chime in who has gone from a 350D to a 5D? It seems like a pretty intuitive camera, but should I expect the learning curve to be really steep? How does the AF compare between the two (I'm guessing the 5D will be better, especially in low light). I love my Rebel, but I'm thinking it will collect some dust from here on in (but I now have a solid backup camera, for sure). Thanks for reading!

Hey pix, you feel a bit warm to me. You sure you're feeling OK? Man, you don't look good at all. I think you're a little pale too. Is that a cough I hear? I think you might need to take the aftenoon off.

LOL! I love you guys! And you know what, I actually AM feeling lousy today (for real). Go figure, but I think I'll tough it out. My wife already knows I'll be a bit preoccupied this evening (she is very understanding of such things). But I haven't been this excited since I got my Rebel and jumped into the DSLR world in the first place. Life is good! |

I went from the XT to the 5D. It's little different but not bad. You shouldn't have any problems. Some buttons are in different places but if you put the battery on the charger, take the camera and go sit down and read the manual for a bit, you'll be fine.

Yeah, I noticed that when I held one at Best Buy a while ago. I'm fine with that--at least my 70-200mm lens won't look so lopsided like it did on the 350.
Strikeslip, you'll get one, I'm sure. Either that, or whatever kicka$$ replacement Canon comes out with next year. Who knows, in a year from now we will be looking at YOUR new camera and going "aww man, I want one!". :) |

Don't forget to change your equipment list so it'll show up under your name.

Yeah, I was thinking of doing that right away, but I want to at least hold this beauty and take a few shots before I list it as my primary camera here. Later this evening, it will be done. Let's see, out of here in a little over an hour, 20-minute drive home...it's like being 5 all over again on Christmas morning! |

Your wife failed to tell you that her and I are running off with your camera. Sorry, she's the only way I could get to it. I'll send her back in a few months.

Mate, you are gonna love it.. just wait until you get SUCKED into that HUGE viewfinder.. or the first time you press that shutter button and you get that MIGHTY clunk.. yeah sure is noisy, but people will know you have arrived and you mean business..
Oh, and the first time you shoot at ISO 1600 and actually realise the image can be used without any noise reduction...
I'm actually excited for you.. |

Wouldn't that suck if they forgot the battery charger in the box, or the on switch was broke from the factory...
I hate it when that happens...
Only kidding, Enjoy your new camera that I can never afford to have because I am a poor white boy. |

LOL!!! Dude, only YOU could come up with a statement like that! That made my day (well, not really, but I really did LOL).
Simms, thanks for sharing my excitement--this thing rocks! I pretty much figured out a lot of the settings fairly quickly, and I plan on spending some quality time with the manual. The battery appears fully charged, believe it of not (nice try Cindi :o)), so I've been wandering around taking several stupid pictures just to try it out (you know, mailbox, flower in the yard, fence behind the house--anything that's around is getting shot. My wife and kids are already getting annoyed with me). I haven't cranked up the ISO too much yet, but I'm looking forward to it. Too bad my son's chorus musical (in a dark auditorium) was a couple weeks ago. I could have really used a decent 1600. And no, everything was in the box that's supposed to be there (if the battery charger doesn't work when I go to use it, boomtap and I are gonna have a throwdown :)).
Anyway, I'm off to put the 70-200 on this beast and try it out some more. The 24-105 works great, but I must try f/2.8 and bask in the bokeh. Pictures will be posted soon!

Awesome, can't wait to see some shots!
Hmm... 5D or a college savings account for my daughter... It's a toss-up! =D
Alright, since you're being slow with the thumbnails, this one's great!
Sweet full-framed goodness! |

LOL you beat me to it! Yeah, on a full-frame camera the 17-40mm is REALLY wide--fisheye wide, or close to it. I was less than a foot away from his head, and unfortunately the focus is on his hair. But wow this works well. Here's another one taken with the 70-200mm wide open:
The auto focus ROCKS compared to my 350D. I seldom if ever used AF Servo mode and 3 fps on the Rebel, but I can see it will get put to good use on the 5D. I know this shot is a tad dark, but I wanted to show the shot more or less straight from the camera. Oh, and shooting raw on this beast is going to EAT my hard drives alive! Good thing hard drives and blank DVDs are reasonably cheap--I'm going to need them!
