I have not had time to travel far with my camera for the last few weeks.
So I took it to the park that backs on to my house and had a go at shooting some flowers for the first time.
Took a handfull, these are the best.
&
cheers. |

As a lover of floral imagery here are some first impressions...
In both images some noise reduction, particularly in the soft focused background, is necessary to make it smoother. The second image is curious because inside the flower it actually already looks over smoothed when the sky still needs it a lot.
For noise reduction never be afraid to selectively apply noise reduction to background only. There are several ways to accomplish that.
The second issue is contrast. Looks like you do not have proper white and black points set for both images. That makes the images look 'flat'. "Levels" adjustments are usually used to correct for that.

Outdoor flower photography offers some interesting challenges. You get to practice DOF, selective focus, color, & noise reduction. Then there is the light & the shadows. The bugs can be cute, but often are visual distractions. Not to mention damage to the petals from wind/rain/sun. Are you going to shoot for identification or Art? Are you going to cut some & bring them indoors? The shots you posted look like postcard shots to me, a good beginning, but oh dear miles to go.... |
