Hey folks, when I got my Sony Alpha I hoped to be able to use one of my dad's old lenses from his film SLR. Unfortunately he has a VERY old Minolta SRT-101 which uses MC (Meter Coupled) lenses. While the bayonet clips look the same as the A-mount on the Alpha, the diameter is a lot smaller. As his lens is a F1.4 58mm I am still dying to be able to use it, even though I'll have to do everything manually.
Is there an adaptor available anywhere to use a MC lens on an A-mount body?

hi Ive got the alpha 100 I dont think there is a coupler or adaptop for these very old lenses, the only company I know who might make a 1 off are SRB sevices ib England.
there are a heap of newer minolta lens around that will fit have a look here //www.trademe.co.nz

um, If I'm not mistaken, if it's anything before the Maxxum era cameras, you'll have to make do with manual. the lens lacks the electronics to communicate with the body, which I don't think any adapter could suddenly create.
Be that as it may, there is a photo.net thread that I found with a bit of conflicting back-and-forth about the issue. |

I did a little quick research, and didn't find anything, so I looked here for the register distances (distance from front flange of the camera mount to the sensor/film plane) of the two mounts. Notice that the newer Minolta AF has a register distance of 44.6mm, whereas the Minolta MD mount has a register distance of 43.72mm. The fact that the newer mount has a larger register means a mechanical adapter is pretty much impossible. The back of the lens would need to be inside the camera.
It's remotely possible that there may be adapters that use a glass element to adjust the lens back-focus distance, but these are horrible compromises, and not worth investing in. |
