The idea of sugar free candy seems great at first. Till you eat the whole bag at midnight and read a few minutes later that the sweetener is a laxative. From 2:00-4:00 it was a regular ol' Dumb and Dumber moment at my house. My stomach has never been so upset, and now I am exhausted. I will never eat Sorbitol again.

if you read carefully the label almost always say that people sensitive to sugar substitutes may experience a laxative effect.... I get it with maltitol.... sucralose doesn't seem to do it though, just gotta watch what sugar substitutes are in stuff.

the main people who really have to be concerned with this is diabetics.... regular sugar is a no no for most, and in order to actually enjoy life, we gotta eat the fake stuff... usually not as good, but when you gotta have chocolate....

Yes, I think I might go and grab a big mac and call it a day.

No, the nasty farty sounds are still there. The candy made it one awful night. My bunghole is on fire.

Put lotion on your TP and put it in the freezer.

I'll just put on some lotion and stick my butt in the freezer.

much healthier alternatives to sorbitol/sugar substitutes and processed sugars:
birch xylitol
stevia
raw agave
all are low glycemic and tasty

I am going to just eat pure cane sugar after what I went through last night. It was a nightmare.

Of course there is the fact that even if it is sugar free... you still shouldn't eat the whole bag.....

Beet sugar and cane sugar are chemically identical -- sucrose -- and neither is good for you by the bagful. Brown sugar is typically white sugar coated with a thin layer of molasses.

"Corn sugar" -- glucose or dextrose -- is the "simplest" sugar, and is what is used by our cells; all other sugars are eventually broken down/converted to glucose. Eating glucose directly allows it to be absorbed directly into the bloodstream, causing the body to have to quickly compensate by releasing large amounts of insulin. Too much of this is one of the factors believed to lead to Type II diabetes ...

It's a pretty simple recipe for Diabetes, take lots of sugar, either from sucrose, dextrose, or glucose, a tv and a really comfy couch, throw in some genes, and voila, Type II diabetes.... ok it's not really that simple, but... it is a genetic disorder. THere's people who can never excersize, eat tons of sugar, and not ever develop diabetes. then there's others who can eat very little sugar, excersize regularly, and still have to check their blood sugar. although the latter are less likely to need medicine or insulin support to cope with it. Since I was diagnosed at the end of March, I have cut WAY back on my carb intake, with the exception of fiber, that I've actually increased, started excersizing and taking my meds, and so far I've been able to control my diabetes. Now, I'm not saying that if you don't have the particular genes for diabetes, that you should go on a pure sugar diet... even without diabetes, that's never a good idea. And until doctors can find the particular gene that causes diabetes, it's better to regulate your sugar intake and get regular physicals. ok that's all for my public service announcement.
