I'm looking to buy a smartphone and have read a ton of reviews...but I'm experiencing information overload. Each phone has a range of reviews from "DO NOT BUY: this phone is the most horrible thing ever..." to "I can't imagine living without this...".
Here is my criteria
1. PDA
2a. Battery Life
2b. Phone
4. Size (it's how you use it that matters)
10. I won't be using it for internet or email, since I'm too cheap to drop the $35,000(US) a month that Verizon wants for the unlimited data package.
11. I won't be using the camera (I have a 30d for that)
12. Don't care about the music features (Have an iPod for that)
So far, I have narrowed it down to the Motorola Q and the TREO 700p.
Does anyone have any experience with either of these two?
(Sorry for being so off-topic, but I guess the phones have cameras integrated, so it's not entirely off-topic)
I'm seriously to the point where I'm going to just say 'forget it!' and buy one of these
Thanks.

Your kind of like me about features. I don't care for a camera phone, Internet access, etc. Text messaging is nice because even if your out of the area most text messages will still go through. And I think one of the best features on a phone is GPS enabled and service.

I text message a little bit, and would probably text more with a full keyboard smartphone...for me, since I'm a computer programmer and not a road warrior, I spend alllll day in front of a computer, so I have internet access and email whenever I want, which is why that is not so high on my list of 'needs'. |

I had the same dilemma about six months ago. If you've narrowed it down to just those two, get the Palm, hands down. There's no question about that in my mind. I've been a palm user for five years now, and made the switch to a converged device. I could not imagine giving up the touch screen and stylus, and that is exactly what you have to do with the Motorola Q. I ended up getting a phone Cingular offers identical to this: XV6700. I liked the larger screen, and don't mind the slide out keyboard. But if that wasn't available, I would have got the Treo 700p. No doubt about it. Five or six people that I work with ended up getting the Treo and they are all happy with it.

Pick the phone that has the better reputation for not dropping calls. :)
