Well, at least you can rest reasonably assured that nobody will be stealing your computer case. At least not without something to lift it. |

Thanks for the tips on ASUS. I went with the P4C800 Deluxe... looks like a good board.

It is a very good board, the same one I have in my system. My best buddy has one as well. You'll be well satisfied. ASUS also has very good support in the US.

So what made you decide to spend the extra ~$52 on the P4C800-E (Intel 875 Canterwood chipset) vs. the P4P800 (Intel 865 Springdale chipset)? You link to newer -E version which actually supports Serial ATA raid and has the Intel CSA gigabit LAN (the non-E version does not do RAID on the S/ATA and has a "standard" 3Com Gigbait LAN), but typed P4C800, so I'm curious which one you actually ordered. All the reviews I've read really like what Asus was able to do with P4P800. This review, for example, says:
The P4P800 is a Springdale board (865PE) that does the impossible. In every measure it is the equal of any Canterwood board I have tested ... The feature set on the P4P800 Deluxe is outstanding - everything the P4C800 Canterwood should have been but isn't ... If you are shopping for a Canterwood, you should also take a long, hard look at the P4P800 and compare features. It is almost impossible to recommend a higher-priced Canterwood over the P4P800 unless you MUST have ECC memory. |

I linked to the wrong board... here is the one i bought:
//usa.asus.com/products/mb/socket478/p4c800-d/overview.htm
The raid feature is not somethign that I will likely use, but this board has it anyway. I do plan to run two 160gb hard drives, but I doubt that I will mirror them.
Edit: Paid $220 from CDW.

Hmm. I thought that might have been the case... I'm a little surprised with the decision, which is why I asked what made you lean towards the P4C over the P4P. I'd think the P4P800 at $132 is a better value, especially based on the reviews that say it is equal in performance with more features than the P4C.
Also... any reason you didn't order from NewEgg? They have the P4C800 Deluxe for $173 -- $47 cheaper than CDW. |

I bought the deluxe cause it's 'deluxe' :) No real reason and those two boards are similar for sure. I probably could have been just as happy with it.
I only buy from CDW. I stick with single vendors and I have been doing business with CDW for a long time.
