Friendly reminder (and oh I know I'm guilty of forgetting) but scores are just a random number (well, OK, not totally random) that say that a hundred or so people glanced at a picture, then hit a number on their keyboard or clicked a number with a mouse. They are not a "final determination" of how good your picture is or isn't. They are an indicator to an extent of how well your picture was received by a select audience - that audience being a site full of folks who see tons of pictures here every day. The "wow" factor (which ain't my thing) will always have a play here.
But there is definitely room for the quiet picture, the picture that requires a second or sixty longer than the nanosec it takes to hit a number and move on, the picture of friends or family that holds a significant meaning, and the picture that just shows a photographer's attempt at a new techique, approach or vision. I, for one, truly appreciate having those in challenges when I vote. I've been here for awhile, voted in a LOT of challenges, and I appreciate something other than the usual fare. Note that I am not slamming "the usual fare". Heck even I recently tried shooting water drops on a rose. There are always people trying something for the first time that others have done over and over.
So fret not over scores here - and remind of this the next time I do!

Anyone have a simple answer that my mentally-blocked brain can understand? I know there's the tutorial but I have not been successful with understanding that so far.
Thanks. |
GOt a few minutes of internet time during my holiday. So - somewhat geekily - I'll answer this.
Simple answer - as your shot is put onto bigger pieces of card, there will be less dots per inch of paper. (Because your shot consists of a fixed amount of dots, essentially.) |

Deb: The text in my profile just keeps getting bigger and bigger.... ;-)
re: DPI
You all have been wonderful... <3
I am going to try again in a while to see if I can make a printable file... I certainly feel much better about my prospects for understanding it all. I'll let you all know if I have updates!!

klstover - have you tried the tutorial for making prints: //dpchallenge.com/tutorial.php?TUTORIAL_ID=46 - and there's another one under learn/prints but I haven't watched that one yet. |

I'll keep that in mind as I watch my Free Study's descent of 0.2 over the last day; must be getting a lot of 1's.

Posthumous Wrote...
Your mission is to tell us about your DPC journey and why it has led you to the world of Suck... post your story on the Suck thread...
>>ok , here goes... I joined DPC in December of 2004, after getting a "real" digital camera (Canon PowerShot S1 IS), which hubby got me for our anniversary (I have always been REALLY bad about not getting film developed!). I have an aunt who has been a photographer as long as I can remember, and I always wanted to be one. I am in college pre-med, and never did take photography (my Jr College required you to buy a 35mm professional camera), so all my learning was trial and error and DPC at least allowed me to get new ideas and see what people suggested for others! I didn't really get too far (lots of snapshots) and got very disheartened, and ignored DPC for about a year or so. Then, I discovered the DPL and was invited to join team GASP with klstover, Greetmir, Delta_6and hywind. All of my teammates have taught me more than I learned in 2+ years on here and 4+ years with my camera. Not to mention the support.
>>Some people on this site take it sooo seriously, and I have watched the TSers have fun with it. That's my goal..the have fun and learn. (but mostly have fun, hehe).. Granted, I would like to make a 6.0 on a picture someday, but I have come to understand that is at the whim of the voters, so I just want to better my shots in my own humble opinion. From what I have seen, that is what TS is all about, and I would love to be a part of that!
>>so there it is, my DPC story and why I'd like to join Team Suck. If I don't make it, I will just keep watching from the sidelines and feeding off the fun!!
Thanks yall!

Welcome SiSi, this is a great group. They buck you up when you're down. They bring you to reality, when it is needed. And they are just a great group of NICE people.

Well, finally I have some big news to announce to Team Suck...on June 15 (one week from tomorrow) I finally will return to work. I just got back from an appointment with the surgeon he is pretty happy with the recovery, considering the severity.
He admitted that he thought it was 4 months from surgery and was pleasantly surprised to find out it is not quite 3 months.
So...the push is on. I must finish some craft projects in the next week! Do more playing with PhotoShop and store up on naps!!!!

I'm afraid I'm still rather new and not up on my TS history, so I don't know what happened to you, but I'm glad to hear you are recuperating at a faster clip than expected. Sucks to have to go back to work, I guess. :) |

I'm, um, "looking forward" to some interesting weather tonight, and there's a decent chance I'll lose power tonight. If the Free Study results aren't up after the rollover, that's why.
I have bdenny added to a team; are there any other new additions?
