Yes, it is a kissable candy. The reason I took it was because I have been trying to improve my photography, mostly of people. My kids are all tired of seeing me go for the camera. SO, I have taken to bribing them. They get one kissable for every snap of the shutter. It works, I have somewhat more willing models now. So he was holding it in his hand waiting for the shutter to click so he could get his bribe, which was immediately opped into his mouth. And the blue ones are his favorite, not because that taste better but because blue is his favorite color. I actually printed this for his scrapbook album and talked about his fasciantion with the color blue, so in this case, the desat was beneficial to tell my story. I guess adding the story might make the photo more meaningful. Sorry I didn't do that before.

In normal advanced editing you may NOT use 3 different crops of the same image to create a triptych. You cannot duplicate or move any parts of your image in any way.

The hue sat is definitely the way to go with my image. However, if your colors are not quite right, start by creating a background copy. This will allow you to erase those sections that get desaturated because they have some of the color that you used in selective saturation. For instance if you try to desat blue, and your main subject unfortunately has some blue toning in it that you want to maintain, then do the desat and erase, using maybe 75% opacity, on the parts you wish to keep in color. |

Just an observation, but you saturated the wrong thing. I guess having the clothing pink does make it obvious that the baby is a girl, but does little more to add to the photo.
Now, maybe if the entire baby were color in a totally grey world...

Borrrring :-) When someone shows me a B&W paper that is a neutral gray, I will concede that digital B&W images should be grayscale, until then my grays have a tint.

why not instead desat. the baby AND the clothes, leaving everything else B&W, i think that'd look nice. |

I don't think it's babies per se that DPC'ers don't like, but the gratuitous use of babies (or pets, or fuzzy animals, or baby fuzzy animals...) in an attempt to garner the "cute" vote. Also, people who submit baby shots are often submitting shots of their own kid, and parents simply cannot be objective when it comes to their offspring.

Submit this for selective desat and it will be clobbered for DNMC. Sublty is generally unrecognized and easily overlooked when voting 400+ entries in a challenge. It is unreasonable to expect more with such large numbers.

I basically dislike selective desat. I expect it's because it's used too much, too cheaply and too often for its own sake. Anyway, my entry will move you to tears (or bomb, thus moving me to tears). |
