this would be my guess...although, when capturing a sport, and the pic is clear, does that mean its not motion??? can you really be sure????

Some people think it's funny to enter the worst quality image possible, in order to receive the lowest score... hence, the Brown Ribbon. It's not funny. I hope SC takes a look at DQ's for this kind of thing.

Totally agree.

I agree hahn23...I don't find it humorous & I don't vote well on those.

Nor do I! But, a low vote is their goal, so we play into their hands. It's a mockery of the DPChallenge system.

Apparently so. 1 person loved the photo but voted it low because they felt it did fall with the parameters of the description of the challenge.

maybe I should have went against the grain and listened to my wife this time. she for the second week in a row trashed my entry last week she was wrong. This week she might have been on to something. my score dropped from a 6.3 down to 5.6 overnight. it is moving back up at 5.9 now. I think it will settle in around 5.8 by the end of the week. keeping fingers crossed that it will hit 6.0

You are right, it would be best to have those DQ'd. I have seen people vote well on them though, just for the fun of it I guess. Sucks..

If the pic is clear when stopping motion you can usually tell if there is an action going on by the persons body position or expression.
I've been scoring this one rather tightly, but I've tried to leave a comment on everything I've scored 5 or less, if I offend anyone that is not my intent, it's just my opinon.
If there are people in the picture and I can't see there faces or they are off in the distance, or if there is blur in the photo's main subject I will not rate higher than a 5.
Once again just my opinon, but if you look in any paper or magazine the pics are usually in focus and a tight crop on the subject, with no more than 2 to 5 players in the pic, with no blur unless it's a pan shot of something or someone in motion and then the main subject is uually in focus.

~~Did I miss the part of the rules that says you have to see the faces, or that it should be a journalistic style shot?? Guess I'm too simplistic, but I thought it was just about a favorite sport.....

Edit corrections.

I got a DNMC...and I have no idea HOW that is. I captured a sport. There might not be much ACTION as in MOVEMENT in the shot...but it captures the sport IN PLAY. I'm not liking this challenge so far. Either I read the challenge wrong or people are misinterpreting it.

I didn't enter this challenge but I think there are a lot of things considered "sports" .. so I voted I guess differently than most (from what I am reading here). Heck, if someone is running - that is a sport to me. Or if I see a baseball, that is part of a sport..haha.

this challenge is going to have a wide range of views. Some people are going to be looking for sweat flying off faces as person dives through air to get to a ball, some will be happy to see a golf tee stuck on top of an ice cream cone. Motion blur no motion blur etc... I am more interested in which photos will end up in the bottom 20 for this one because all but just a few of them scream sports to me.

I agree with you. Clearly some juvenile behavior evident, which should be squelched sooner, rather than later. A DQ for "going for the brown" mockery of the challenge would be justice. For all of us who entered and voted in good faith, those who act in bad faith steal our time and energy.

I disagree. In the world of sports, you have plenty of examples of clowning", entertainment, acting silly and playfulness, all of which happens in the arena in relationship to the sporting event, but none of which is professional pursuit of the "win". Are these sporting clowns (some of whom are the actual professional atheletes) wasting everyone's time and acting in bad faith? If sports is only about winning I'd agree. But sports like photography is about many more things than how high you score! Entries which are "going for the brown" waste nobody's time since nobody is required to vote on any specific entry, just on 20% overall. "Going for the Brown" is not acting in bad faith, nor is it stealing anyone's time and energy. It may merely be a playful way of participating in the sport of DPC, having fun on the sidelines while all the serious folks are out there on the field getting sweaty over the score.

strange question....are you allowed to spot edit or change just one area in a photo in basic editing? Just trying to learn, and in looking as I was voting....

excuse me but how can the face of a person be the most important thing in a challenge called Sports?? If eating contests or Throwing-pies-at-faces were the only sports allowed in this challenge, then maybe, just MAYBE I would understand your opinion..

But again, people are allowed to have their opinions, no matter what other people think.. Stupid thing, that ;)

No, you can only remove sensor dust or hot pixels, no spot editing allowed.

Correct me if I'm wrong?

So what are you looking for? Just curious. I think there are plenty of quality images in this section, but I'm not a sports photographer so I might not be seeing some key elements.

To me the face of the contestants is very importantm it tells a story better than a picture of their butts or a group of 20 people in the far distance. It's just how I judge and what it means to me. As I said I 'm not trying to offend anyone. It's just how I see it.

And, some think building defacement graffiti is "fine art". Yes, we have clowns. I wouldn't suggest offending the first rate clowns by saying the Brown crowd is somehow akin to them. What we have at DPC is sort of like the occasional drunken fan who runs across the football field... naked and out of control.... in order to get "exposure" on national television.

I just like a good clean picture that is related to sports in any way. It doesn't matter to me if I see a face, or if it is in motion, or if it is action. Without a baseball, you wouldn't have the sport.
