I think I found this link in an Oregon GTG thread.
The Grotto
"This beautiful 62 acre Catholic Shrine and botanical garden is located in Portland, Oregon."
Has anyone ever been there? I'm not religious, but my grandparents are very. I think a photo collection from there would be a great gift for them. It looks like a beautiful place.
If you've been there, is it as nice as it looks? Is there a good time or bad time to visit? |

Hi aliqui. Yes, have been there several times but only to drive in and drive out. Some flowers, large trees, dark in there and yes religious statues. I'd bet your grandparents would appreciate the photos.
It's in an area that I didn't go to very often, on Sandy -near the airport. I lived in Beaverton.
Like most everything there in the PNW this would be a good time of year to go there.

The choir I sang in when I was young went there on tour several times. It's been quite a while, but I remember it as being fairly interesting (and I'm not particularly religious). |

Man, I haven't been there since I was in school. My competition choir performed there for a Christmas Eve service.
I've never been during the day. |

Haven't seen that, but the Rose Gardens must be beautiful there, with the roses blooming? We used to live there, but only for 18 months, 94-96. I'd love to take photos of the roses, it's time we visited Portland again, haven't done so for about 8 years I think and our daughter was born there.

The "International Rose Test Garden" is great, but so is the Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden near Reed College. If you just go in to shoot photos they're lenient, but if you go in with a model, it costs some hefty $$$. |

So they don't mind people coming in to just walk around and take photos of stuff? I'm thinking maybe I should email them and ask if it's okay to photograph stuff and if there's a better day than another to do it. I don't want to disrespect people who are there trying to pray in solitude and whatnot. |
