Okay mr D80, yes there's differences.

XTi has dust reduction = USELESS

Im sure the 30D has faster top shutter speed. Better noise reduction yada yada.

30D = Larger LCD screen, tougher build, less noise as well as the other differences you mention. Probably others too, but those come to mind first.

Might find some useful information here: //canon30d.dpnotes.com/canon-30d-vs-rebel-xti/

XTi has a 1/200 s flash sync, whereas the 30D is 1/250 s (a bit better).

XTi has its knob on the right, whereas the 30D has it on the left.

One big difference I noticed to me (might not make a difference to other people), is when you hold/handle them, the 30D is much larger, and feels more solid in my hands. The xti feels almost like a toy in comparison, to me.

Doing a side by side at dpreview may help.

The 30d is slightly better. It just depends on whether or not you think its 400 to 600 dollars better.

What the 30D has and the XTi doesn't, in a nut shell: spot meter, 5 fps, greater resolution, less mp's, larger sensor size, ISO 3200, Kelvin WB, 1/8000 shutter speed, longer shutter life (actuations), faster flash sync, longer battery life, heavier, larger, stronger body.

I thought both sensors were APS-C sized.

The 30D is 22.5 x 15.0 mm and the 400D is 22.2 x 14.8 mm.

400D has more, it is a 10.1 megapixel camera and the 30D is an 8.2.

Sorry, "less mp's" - not "more". I have corrected my original post accordingly in the meantime. Thanks, TechnoShroom for pointing this out.

I have a 30D as well and use it almost daily.

The 30D sensor is a little (0.2mm) wider, with "less", not "more" mp's (I made a boo-boo, then corrected it).
