There have been several heated debates here on DPC forums on what is and isn't photographic art. Perhaps one easy criterion for a true "art" is that it is praised by the true experts - art dealers, museum and gallery curators, and art critics. In this respect, Andreas Gursky is definitely one of the titans of contemporary photographic art - his prints adorn walls of the world's best museums, and one of his prints
was recently sold at Sotheby's for a record 3.3 million dollars (!).
On my recent East coast trip I shot the interior of the Guggenhaim museum in Manhattan
and a couple of days later I visited Boston's new Museum of Contemporary Art and saw another one of Gursky's prints
depicting the interior of one of Shanghai's hotels. Needless to say, I was rather amused by the similarity of my modest snapshot to the famed work of one of the world's premier photo artists :). Actually, I think my photo is better :)))
Anybody wants to buy it? I can print it bigger than Gursky's, and don't insist on $3.3M, even a 1% of that would do... It's a steal :)

Sorry.. Gursky's photo has about 3,000 more layers to it than yours does.. from lighting, to composition, to geometrical interaction, to color... the list goes on.
So.. no sale. Plus, the people in yours are fuzzy ;) |

Yeah, it does have a few more floors than mine, I'll give you that. But the flat lighting, oversaturated colors, and a boring symmetric composition... I am not so sure... :) |

Keep your price at $1M...that way if it does sell, you'll be way more famous.. |
