hywind spoke to a camera repair guy for me (I am SO THANKFUL that he did this!!!) and it looks like, since I have no money for replacing, I'm gonna be camera-less.

Sorry to hear this, There must be a friend who could lend you one for the challenges..

There's one person I could probably borrow a camera from for a little bit but it's going to be more hassle than it's worth unless I have a really kick-butt challenge concept and want to go all-out for it. Bleh.

No, I'm sorry, but that just won't do. You've gotta find a way, Kelly.

And by the way, thanks for the laugh! I just saw my quote in your profile about normal people vs. DPCers hacking nice pictures to pieces. :)

Did we have any team changes recently?
05/16/2007 12:04:42 AM · #2213
Results are up in the Challenge Results Thread. I have a bug in my scores script; I'll get those posted once I have things working again.

EDIT: The weekly results are also posted.

Got any ideas?
Haha, yes, it was an amazing quote. Funny and witty, but also very thought-provoking.

Kelly, if you were to be able to replace your camera, what would you look for? I'm thinking Team Suck will simply have to do something to help, though I'm not sure what yet....
05/16/2007 12:26:05 AM · #2218
sorry brigaders, i just entered my first challenge in a while, and on the home page it shows as one vote, one view, and avg. vote of 1. i know scores don't matter, but it bugs me that my first score was a one, with no comments, and i was hoping for at least a 4 on this... i'm equally saddened because this was a pic of me... :(

Oh gosh, I don't know. I've never been able to be picky about stuff like that. With cars it's been, "okay I want something to get me from point A to point B without me having to worry about it breaking down". When I got my camera, it was the same one my friend had, and I knew I liked it, so I didn't do any research. So sort of my main focus would be on "able to take pictures" LOL.

*thinkthinkthink*

Probably something relatively lightweight, due to pain issues. And I like taking macros? I think though honestly I would just fall over and die of joy if I got a camera, no matter what it was like.

Muppet - Aww, you don't have to apologize to us!!!
Don't worry about that first vote - they're always really off anyway, I've seemed to notice. *hugs*

Kelly, I'm with Deb. We'll find a way.

So get researching, young lady! I suggest you start with the Canon A620 and similar cameras. They're lightweight, have good MP counts, and have manual controls. If you're so inclined later, you can also buy adapters for more zoom or closer macro.

Don't bother with anything lacking manual controls.

Here's where to start:

Not! It started with 6.0 and after 7 votes is at 4.5.

It's always risky posting photo of yourself (unless you are Silverfoxx). When the shot is panned it's a double rejection. I've been there and it hurts twice as bad. The good thing is that the hurt will only last for the week of the challenge, then it's soooooo... in the past it doesn't matter at all.

I wondered as to why your photo did not score better and that sucks.

I did find three distraction that IMHO may help.

In Your brief you show brightness contrast before noise removal, I have found that noise removal takes some clarity from the image and I replace this with contrast after.

The pole was not aligned with the frame.

And the shadow in front distracted.

I made these adjustments, hope you like.

05/16/2007 02:14:40 AM · #2224
Very nice, Brian!! I agree that I need to work on my workflow as far as using noise reduction - I rarely use it but think that may be something I need to incorporate more often if I wish to have more "professional" presentations. And eyewave pointed out the shadow in an early comment - I hadn't even noticed it - very good catch on both your parts. As for the pole, I do know it wasn't straight, but that's due in part to lens distortion with the 10-22 - I'd have liked to have done a bit of perspective correction but not allowed in basic.

I really appreciate you taking the time to make the adjustments - thank you very much!

Kelly, I am so sorry about your camera, and wish i could help out.

I have my camera away, re a quote to have it fixed after my fall, as it got damaged, re the flash section. I have no idea how long I will be without it, but ever so lucky I have my smaller Kodak digital at hand, so not really without a camera like you are.

Living so far away in Australia, I am not in a position to help.

I only hope someone living not far from you has a spare camera for you to borrow. I know you would find it had to buy another one, so only hope something will work out for you, as you are now the captain of the "DPL Gasp" and it would be sad, if you can't participate.....

I wish you all the best, and only hope someone out there, can help you.
