ooo, so out of touch here. get busy for a few days, and you're hopelessly behind...

does anyone know if we're allowed the album title as well as the bend name on the dpl album cover? or are they all eponymous? how does one 'send a ticket'?
05/12/2007 05:13:41 PM · #2027
Don't know about the album title - I'd suggest using that as the title to the picture maybe? (And thinking I should do the same.) Send a ticket - go to Help, Contact Us.

She marked a comment as helpful today, so she's around and about. And congratulations are in order - not only was her butterfly a new personal best, it made the page of top photos for her camera!

My DPL is in, and I'm expecting a mixed reaction. As a photo I think it is reasonably decent, though not overwhelming. As an album cover, it depends on your taste. I grew up in the Seattle grunge-band era, which probably had an influence on what I consider to be an engaging look for a cover. In fact, I lived in Seattle during that era, and still think the Pearl Jam cover with the distorted sheep sticking its nose through the fence is cool. (Not that my entry looks anything like it.) Does anyone else remember that cover? I'm probably a decade (or more, LOL) out of fashion.

Pearl jam ROCKS!! and yes I love Nirvana too, I have the album you mention so yeah I remember it!! It is a cool pic.

woohoo - we can have both the band name and the title on the pic. yes - my composition is now balanced!

Hi all, I wasn't online much yesterday, and just got settled done now. Thank you Noraneko for your concern. That does my heart good.

We are okay in Palm Beach Co. -- Southeastern Florida seems to be fire free at the moment, but the conditions are extremely dry. Because there is such a serious water shortage, we are allowed to water lawns and gardens for only 10 minutes once a week. We have had a few brief thunder storms, but they set fires with their lightening and do little to relieve the drought.

I went on a bird count this morning, and we could hardly see beyond 100 feet. (There was no point in taking a camera along.) The smoke is very evident, both from the haze and the smell, even though the fires are many miles away. When I left the preserve where we were counting, I couldn't tell the difference between East and West, and I went a couple of miles in the wrong direction before I figured it out.

On a DPC note, I'm in DPL Album Cover and Vanishing Point. I fear I may be DQed for the DPL entry, but what the heck, I don't want to change it. I rarely score high enough to attract that sort of attention anyway, and this will be no exception.

I've got my DPL in! It's not very DPC-friendly... but I wrote a great description of the band in the details!

Nice thread, Jeffrey. I can't see how you manage to do everything you do. I guess it's true that "If you want something done, ask a busy man to do it".

I usually love your non-friendly entries. Looking forward to seeing this one.

Well one of my DPL ideas got rained out and then I lost control in PS with the one I've entered, oh well I like it and had heaps of fun with it and that's all that matters.

The band name should be/be in the title, as I understand it. I've included the band name, album title and more in the picture. I've been dq'd from better places than this...

Edited to subtract possible clue/cheating info...

It says you are allowed to add text, no discussion of what text you can add. I don't think it's a dq risk.

I added band name and album title too.

Follow this man's DQ advice at your own risk. :P

I just used a band name, and I'm not changing it now!! I hope no one expects an album title. I think they're called self-titled or something like that.
05/12/2007 10:40:33 PM · #2043
Crap, I broke up the DPL as part band name and part album title, although it isn't necessarily obvious from the photo - I think it could be interpreted either way. Hope it won't get me in DQ problems, had enough of that with my grain challenge to last a long time.

On a far more important note, Julianne, I'm SO glad to hear you are doing okay - I know I can be a worrywart about stuff like that, but having grown up in wildfire territory (my folks' place in Montana borders the national forest) I've seen firsthand how quickly they can get out of control.

AND - I'm glad Deb brought up the kudos about your butterfly photo. Kudos indeed!

And here I thought I was the only one putting in the "facts" about my band in my comments... Don, I'm quite sure yours will be the more entertaining writeup.

Just the band name on the picture will be fine for those doing it that way. First albums are often self-titled (is it "eponymous"?).

Catherine, I love having someone to worry about me. And I have a lot of respect for, and some personal experience with fire too. Our family's old summer home (full of heirlooms), that I owned jointly with my brother and sister, exploded and burned to the ground a few years ago. Since then I have had extreme empathy for people who are living through natural disasters, and man made disasters (wars) too. Life goes on, and I got over my loss, but I am lucky enough to be able to carry on in a comfortable manner. So many people who suffer these losses are not that lucky.

We're a force to be reckoned with... this from Langdon in the thread about the DPL:
Just a note that a new forum section has been created for The DPL. The current Side Challenges and Tournaments section should be kept to old WPL threads, 30 challenges, Team Suck, and other appropriate topics.

I have that vision of Steve Martin running down the street in "The Jerk", clutching the phone book, and yelling,"I'm somebody!" at the top of his lungs. Anyone recall that?
