The best news, though, is I got a GREAT comment and rating from Posthumous for my Chains entry. It really made my day!

I got one from him too. Was a fantastic comment and rating.

I've got no bugs, no landscapes, and crappy hair. I might be out of the running this week.

I may get a landscape today, although it will be around 2pm so the light will be rubbish. :o

Bah, spent an hour setting up my hair shot, took 4 photos and the battery died. Hopefully one of the 4 is stunning but it's highly unlikely.

Aww poo. I hope if you can't reshoot that you will submit one of them even if it's not exactly what you hoped for.. (i.e. "stunning" is great but "decent" can be good too, hehe :D )
04/14/2007 05:07:46 AM · #182
Yeah well if was stunning it would be a first for me :D Luckily it's expert editing so I should be able to do something...I'm still waiting for the batteries to charge so I can have a look...fingers crossed.

Just stopped by to say "Hey!" and show you what I'm up to in South Carolina. I'll be back after the Cheerleading competition to check in....

Hi all!

I'm going to have to cut back a bit on challenges as I'm getting really busy now, but will try to stick my head in and enter at least 1 challenge a week. Here's Chains:

Well, I was wrong - the weather was decent today, so I was able to get outside.

Got a shot in for Free Study, and one for Landscapes too.

Cool...I am hoping to do a landscapes shot tomorrow, it's going to be nice out tomorrow according to the weatherman....we'll see, lol. It has been overcast and rainy here for a week strait....

A new shot from a couple weeks ago, anyone care to comment on which they like better?? Same shot just processed and unprocessed...
Processed, hue/saturation
Unprocessed.
any thoughts?

I like the processed shot much better although would probably prefer it more bluish than purple.

Is there a tutorial somewhere about creating the borders that are a square of color over the image (so that some of the image is outside the border too)? I couldn't find it in the tutorial section but I know I've seen one.. maybe not on this site?

bleeehhh. I just closed and saved a psd file without realizing I hadn't undid my resize. I guess working on a smaller file to do more edits is only a big deal when you're going to make prints, right?

I always think I'd like to do prints but I feel like I don't know how (and yes I have watched the tutorial).

If you save a psd file (which I don't, I'm bad, I know it) can you not open it and go back steps? Though I think with size it probably dumps pixels if you save the smaller one. I haven't a clue.

As for a border you can sorta see through... I think there's one way but I'm not sure if it's what you're looking for.

To do this is PS CS, make a duplicate layer of the picture after you're all done with everything else, under Edit, choose "Stroke". In this case, I set the color to black, the pixel size to 15, and checked "inside" (though I'm not sure what the other choices do), then chose "Multiply" as the blending mode, 50% opacity, and checked the block to preserve transparency. You can adjust using the opacity slider for the layer, too, and can use different blending modes (all in advanced only, of course - can't use blending modes in basic).

I would imagine you could also then "erase" parts of the border if you wished as well. Haven't tried that!

Whenever I re-open the file, the steps are just "open" and that's it. Nothing previous to the opening.

Thanks for the border thing! It wasn't exactly what I was thinking for this particular image I have in mind BUT it was something I was wondering about before!

I will try to find an example image that is what I was thinking.

I've got a question about expert editing, can I use my beloved brushes or is that classed as adding graphics?

OMG...I know what you mean! I have watched the tutorial so many times and I still don't get it. I just bought Digital Photography for Dummies. I'm hoping that will help.

i'm pretty sure that if they only add a texture, they're ok. so, a little more subtle than you have here.

if you want to be certain, go to the help section and send the sc a question.
