just kinda skimmed through the thread, so someone may have mentioned it already.. but i believe they sell adapters for xD cards to go into CF slots on memory card readers.. so you just attach it to your xD and slap that into your CF memory reader slot and it's supposed to work |

fyi, for anyone looking for a cf card
here's a nice site that compares differnt brands, sizes and speed of cards.
unfortunately, it's only for compact flash cards but it might be useful how certain brands perform
//www.robgalbraith.com/
i've used a viking 128 and unfortunately, i had 2 corrupted pictures in about a thousand
i've currently use the Lexar 512mb 40x which is pretty good. when i got it, it came with a usb cf card reader (only usable by the lexar cards) which was nice since transferring from my 10d was kinda slow. i think lexar also has some image recovery tools/software incase you lose an image |

Believe me, if waiting was an option, I would. |
Buy one of these instead of an additional card:

I've never actually been able to tell if it comes with a hard drive included. It says 20-80gb so I assume you have to actually buy the drive separately?

It will show a shortage of however much I had just deleted from the card. I'm not sure what causes that but it's annoying to me. A quick format of the card fixes it but I can't explain why it happens. |
The only problem I've had is similar to this one. If I view the images using my card reader but don't delete them, then put the card back into my camera I can't view the images on the LCD screen. It really isn't a problem, because the images are still there and I can still get them on my computer, but if I wanted to show them to someone using the LCD it gives a corrupted file error. I do use XP pro, and have ScanDisk CF cards.

"Both flash memory cards and the IBM Microdrive contain a controller. The controller determines how data is to be written to the card. Whether a flash memory card or the Microdrive will be speedy or not with a given camera is determined as much as anything by the controller architecture. A card that is fastest with one camera isn't necessarily fastest with another, because of how the controller interacts and exchanges data with the camera. The write speed test results are a testament to this." from //www.robgalbraith.com/bins/multi_page.asp?cid=6007
THANKS for the site URL. It's a very interesting site with detailed info on memory & microdrive cards.

Sam's club has had 256mb cf for $40 for several months. I have two of them and they work great. Simple Tech brand with lifetime guar.
btw...if you ever have a problem of camera saying a card is not readable try this....put card in your pc card reader and drag a file to it that has the folder and some pics created by your camera, then try it in camera. this fixed a SanDisk card that quit and another off brand card that wouldn't start when new.
I always format cards in the camera after I copy to pc and make backup and have only had the one problem with the SanDisk card

I don't know if this is true or not but someone told me that your CF cards last for a certain amount of time and then get bad. That if you keep using a large card when you are only taking a few pics then that is still considered "a use." I don't know if that is true or not but I have all different size cards -- 2/256, 2/128, my free 96 from Canon, 1/64, 2/32 and 1/16 that came with my first digital camera. If I think I'm only going to take a few pics (which I often do) I then use a smaller card.
Also, I have had the problem with a ? mark showing up when I upload my photos through the Canon program. Ironically, there is never a picture missing just a ? saying that I have a corrupted file. This has happened to me twice and no I've never done any of the things listed above. I only use the Canon software as a vehicle to get my pictures elsewhere. I do however have XP. |

I get the big ? in Canon File Viewer Utility too but I don't think it is from bad cards. For me it usually comes after I have manipulated the file in some other software. Rotating a file in Windows Picture and Fax Viewer is famous for this. Another problem I have with Canon FVU is that pictures I have rotated sometimes revert to the old orientation. |
