Hi, me again. What is more annoying than a newbie who wants to "improve" your beloved website?
Anyway, here are a couple of suggestions for changes that I suspect would be very easy to implement.
First, on the log in page you provide a checkbox for "___Save my username as a cookie for the sake of convenience" -- but the box has to be manually re-checked each time I login. If the page can remember my username, can't it also remember to keep that option checked by default?
The other suggestion is about timing out. Possibly because I ask that my username be remembered (and not my password), I get logged off VERY quickly if I'm not actively moving through the DPC website. I've never timed it, but it feels like 10 or 15 minutes of inactivity will cause it. Couldn't that length of time be increased, perhaps to an hour?
Thanks for considering (or at least reading) these suggestions,
Sincerely,
-- Larry in NYC

If your webbrowser or any antivirus/antispyware software deletes your cookies then its you or your software. Also if the browser rejects cookies then same issue.
When you click that it creates a cookie to store that information on your own PC. Most antispyware software deletes the cookie.
Never had an issue before. If you have it save name and password then u dont have to login from THAT ONE pc until you log out yourself. Chances are this is 99 to 100% on your end as far as remembering your name. The time out is a 50/50 thing.

I have no issues like what you describe.

Just another suggestion, why don't you check the "Save my password as a cookie and automatically log me in the next time I visit." box. Then everytime you visit the site you're automatically logged-in. It also works automatically to re-log you when you have timed-out due to inactivity. |

If I have both boxes checked, I can stay logged in indefinitely. Also, I only seem to "time out" when I'm at work, so I suspect that is more of a firewall, other stuff, issue than a dpc one though.
Exception -- If I am voting, and I leave one image up too long, it will "kick" me out when I try to vote. |

Hi Larry,
The situation you are describing makes me wonder if your browser is set to not automatically accept cookies, as RainMotorsports has suggested. Try adding DPC to your list of "safe" sites/allow cookies and I believe you will be all set. Doing this should also solve the problem behind your second suggestion.
If you continue to have trouble, please Contact Us and give the specifics of your operating system so we can help you track down the problem. For example, do you use Windows XP vs. Windows 98, and also be sure to include what type of browser (Firefox, IE, Safari, etc.) that you use.

Thanks for your responses, folks. I use Windows XP (SP2) at work and Windows 2000 at home, and I have the same problems at each location. I use Internet Explorer Version 6.0.2900 on both PCs.
I don't think it's a cookie problem, because as I said above, the site always remembers my username! It's just that the "Save my username as a cookie" checkbox has to be manually re-checked on each visit. A very minor annoyance, admittedly.
Apparently I can choose "Save my PASSWORD as a cookie" and I won't have any more problems with checkboxes or early timeouts. No one really has access to my PCs, so there's no real reason not to choose that option except my own stubbornness. :-)
