budget 500 USD.
Here's what I have:
Lenses: Nikon AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5G IF-ED
Sigma 50mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro for Nikon
Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 APO DG Macro for Nikon
Replacements are OK....I love the Nikon Kit lens but I want something longer for walking around. I like the sigma 70-300 but need more width. The Sigma macro is usually used in studios.
So I guess something as wide or wider than the Nikon with more length than 70mm and faster would be nice....VR/IS....well....not sure.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Don't know the difference between these two but they around $500. I don't know much about them just looked at the lenses listed here. I don't know of any one lens that is wider than 18 mm and longer than 70 mm. |

i looked at the 24-120mm and it looks good. but it seems to be around the $600 mark, which may be a bit high for the poster's budget. worth the extra $100 though, if you can stretch it. trading your 18-70mm would cover the difference. i have the 18-70mm and i like it a lot ... it's a great lens.
i'd say that speed is more important than width. but with the VR, you'd be ok. 17-55mm f2.8 is an awesome lens. but double what you're after.
the 24-120 is probably the widest range walk around lens you'll find ... price is good too.
you've got a lot of range covered, however, so if you're considering a 4th lens, rather than upgrading, then think about an ultra wide lens, like the tokina 10-17mm. it's high on my list of things to buy!! :)
that would cover you from 10mm to 300mm in just 3 lenses, with your 50mm prime as a nice fast backup.
i love lens shopping nowadays ... there are just so many options! :)

For me I'd definately get a super wide zoom before upgrading current coverage.
That Tokina 10-17 is a fisheye by the way.
Sigma has a 10-20 rectilinear that although Ken Rock-dog doesn't like so much has gotten good reviews.
Another option is the Sigma 30 1.4 if you do a lot of indoor natural light shots.
Those two are on my list of next purchases.
I love my 18-200 VR when there is enough light btw but that's well over 5 hunny. |

Found these 2.. don't know how they are, but they sound great for the price!
Tamron 18-250mm F/3.5-6.3 Macro
Tokina 12-24mm f/4 DX PRO
Any reviews on either of the 2 lenses above?

There are PLENTY reviews for the 12-24. And probably all positive.

That 12-24 is supposedly better than the Sigma, mainly build quality, but for the same price and maybe a little less the Sigma gives you 10mm coverag - 15 vs. 18 ff equivalent. |
