I'm thinking I might buy Klipsch's ProMedia 2.1 PC speakers.
Does anyone own a set, or does anyone own the logitech set that is comparable (Z-2300's I think)..

Any thoughts?

Two weeks ago I bought the Logitech Z-5500, 6 speaker sound system for my computer. I absolutely love this sound system!!!

Since then I have rarely played my home stereo system which is in the same room. The Z-5500 with it's ten inch subwoofer sounds fantastic. Just when I became disappointed with the max volume, I took a glance at the owner's manual (I usually don't read those things) and found that after reaching max volume, you can turn the volume control 180 degrees further to activate volume boost mode. Wow, these speakers really crank and sound great too.

Tomorrow, my son and I will be going to Best Buy to get that optical cable that will allow him to connect his X-Box 360 to this sound system. It can play outside sources like the X-Box 360 without the computer, and now we will be able to HEAR where the opponent's bullets are coming from in 6 channel surround sound.

This system is a little more expensive than the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 PC speakers, but I highly recommend it.

Check out the Onkyo 7.1 receiver and speakers. I have the receiver hooked up to my computer, my TV & my Karaoke DVD player. (Great surround sound) 110/w per channel. It's reasonably priced and it's LOUD and very clear. I have all my music on the PC now.
I have the logitech Z2300 too and they do sound good. But if you can afford to get the Onkyo, the sound is excellant for music and movies.

Haha, wish I would have seen this earlier. I have a set and LOVE them. Best speakers I've ever listend to and they go LOUD! I plan on getting the Klipsch Quintet (essentially the same as the promedias) system when I graduate from college for my home theater system too.

Couple things to look out for is to not let dust get in the volume control unit, it tends to make it scratchy after a while. And careful with the amp connections or you could blow one of the channels like I did. Thank you best buy replacement plan. :)

Hope you love them as much as I do!

Sam on the PC-- whats your weapon of choice, Winamp or windows media, (or other), I can notice quite a difference from winamp to wmp, wmp being punchier with tru bass and wow (SRS) effects, whats your setup?

I use winamp all the way. I find that windows media player, like you said, being too exaggerated and too much EQ applied to the music. Not to mention it being a huge memory hog. I like that Winamp can be customized to be as much or as little of a player as you want. The only reason I have WMP is to stream music to the xbox 360, and even then, it's just set up to monitor winamp's music library folders. I used iTunes way back when but ditched that in like a week, haha.

Also another little trick is to point the sub's port at a wall or put the whole thing under a desk or something. This makes it resonate more and gives a more smoother and truer bass response.

My father-in-law got a set of those when I was helping him shop PC speakers. They are excellent, and if I didn't already have some that I really like (JBL Pro) I would have bought a set, too.
