Well yet again, off i go on the car for a little drive, this time to the coast to see what i could potentially shoot.

Well, i got the seagulls, some waves crashing on the rocks and maybe the odd landscape shot but nothing exciting or should i say different.......well that was until i bumped into Mark and Paul - Longboarders.

Longboarding
is the term used for skateboarding with boards larger than the usual short board trick-oriented skateboards that you see in skateboarding competitions. Longboarding is closer to sidewalk surfing. A lot of longboarders use their boards to actually get places, since longboards are more stable and heavy than skateboards (so you get more roll out of your push). Longboarding is perfect for people who want a comfortable, more soulful ride, but also for those who want to carve down a steep hill at high speed! All this, and plenty more, is longboarding.

This was only the second time i had the nerve to stop and ask someone if they minded me tagging along and taking a few photographs, but the opportunity was too good to pass up on and i am quickly realising, that this is what photography is all about, getting out there, up close and personal with your subjects and getting 'the' shots. As with my first experience, they both agreed with no hesitance at all and they go to climb the hill.

Here are a few shots of what followed:

I tell you know, this was not easy, i had the light in my face, my tele was too slow to zoom in on the guys, although i did manage to fire off a few shots with my 50mm, however, i did my best with what i had. Lets just say its a lesson learned and i am very open for your advice in such situations.

I think you will agree with me, these guys are nuts, but then again, when i was their age i was tearing up the streets with a deck myself, so i was kind of nostalgically (is that actually a word ?) jealous.

I have invited both Paul and Mark to the forum to view their pics and have got their email address to post back a few, but i would like to take this opportunity to say a big thanks to the lads for allowing me some time with them.

congrats on getting great shots! You did good with the light in your face and the fact that they're speeding down the hill ... I'm still jealous that you've found the courage to approach people ... maybe once people start going back outside (it's still friggin cold here) I'll be able to find some of your courage ... thanks for posting the pics, you're an inspiration to me!

Well i am happy to hear i am an inspiration to you, however, the first time was the hardest, this t ime i didnt realy think too hard, just stopped the car on the way and asked spur of the moment. I am sure that as time goes on, i wont even think about it at all, it will just as natural as taking photos are themselves.

Ben Savage one week, two longboarders this week, not bad! Keep up the good work. I have yet to take any pictures of anyone outside of family and friends, but these posts of yours are helping to boost confidence.

The reward seems to be worth the risk? ;)
