ORIGINAL:

While I'm busy posting, I thought I'd mention my latest assignment for my photography class- due in a week and a half. We are to take 14 photographs, each depicting one of these words:

gentle, soft, reflection, hazard, fancy, eternal, used, suggestive, loud, juicy, spicy, agile, pressure, slick

I've got 8 done (here: //titoi.com/photos/14words/14words0.htm BTW, the first one is "fancy". Look closely at the bag of parmesan.) I'm working on ideas for the other 6. The instructor has forbid us from photographing tabasco sauce for "spicy"- too many people have already done it before! So the idea is for the shots to make you immediately think of the words, but not use ideas that are completely tired. I think a couple of mine might be too weak, but haven't come up with better ideas yet.

If anyone cares to make any suggestions, I'm open to 'em!!

Andi

"fancy" seems to conjure up a mental image of elegance for me... a garbage pail isn't fulfilling my expectations :)

For spicy, maybe you could create a little still life of some hot peppers...

=)
I think ahaze was thinking 'fanciful' when she took the photo of a garbage pail... okay... I just realised the fancy label on the parmesan...lol but a bit too literal for my taste =)

let me guess... hazard is for the broken glass and agile is for the bird... gentle for the squirrel?

Gonna zzzz now...it is 1 plus in the morning for me...

I can't get into your link so I have no idea what you've done already. But I had a similar assignment in college and for spicey I'd light something on fire, like peppers, chili (make it wendy's and you've got an ad shot), salsa, someone breathing flames, etc.

When I click on the link all I get is an error page, saying the page cannot be displayed? Must just be my computer as it seems no one else is having the same problem.

I'll try again later.

sorry 'bout that, I put a "-" at the end of the link. Fixed now.

"Fancy" makes me think of a girl at school... yes indeedy... *sigh*.

As for the rest, here are a few ideas that first came into my mind.

gentle: an old hand or very young hand touching another hand
soft: fluffy fabric, or again something more emotional like a baby or a puppy
reflection: rather than the typical lake or river photos, try something reflecting in a distorted shape and see if you get any good results
hazard: nice chance for a cliff or something if you have nice mountainous scenery around you
eternal: something very old that will always be there, maybe a good chance for some dramatic cloud shots like the 2nd place winner in the sacred places challenge.
used: an old rusty tool or something, will look good in sepia to excentuate the textures
suggestive: i'm stuck on that one, take a browse through the propaganda challenge for some ideas
loud: might be a good chance for an abstract
juicy: oranges, lemons, limes,
spicy: chance for a comedic photo, someone eating a curry, eyes wide-open, smoke coming out of their ears
agile: an athlete, or some kind of animal in motion
pressure: someone studying for exams
slick: another chance for an abstract, could be the opposite to your loud photo in order to be able to have a diptych.

Just a few ideas, probably rubbish ones.

after looking at your list again...pics of women would work for all of them also. I only mention this because I see that you do quite well at portraits and you could have alot of fun with some of these.

I do?! Thanks seanc ;-) I think every "portrait" on my site is of my husband, who is very easy to photograph as far as I'm concerned, the handsome devil. I will give some thought to shooting women though. With the camera, of course :-)

The first thing other than peppers, or hot sauce that comes to mind for "spicy" is a Latina Dancer in a swaying/swooping red dress with killer heels.
That's spicy.

I've completed my "14 Words" project, the entire thing can now be viewed here: //titoi.com/photos/14words/index.html

Thanks to Firstrich1 //dpchallenge.com/image.php?IMAGE_ID=40960 for the inspiration for the final shot, "Eternal". We weren't taught this technique in class and all of my fellow students were surprised and wanted to know how it was done. I don't think it looks anywhere near as good as the inspiration, but it's a good start. My husband and I celebrated our 5 year wedding anniversary on Saturday Nov 29, so I thought it was a fitting tribute- all of the "ghost" photographs are old portraits of my grandparents and other family members. Enjoy!

Note: All the fullsize images are over 200k. Dialuppers beware!

Nice job, ahaze! Those came out great. The squirrel came out really cool. I love how you caught the movement of his tail and the rest of him remained still. Good work and thanks for sharing. :-)

Thanks ButterflySis. I'm pretty pleased with the results, and now that my class is over I can devote all my photographic practice to DPC until my next class (portraiture) begins in January.

So in that vein I just submitted my first DPC entry, in "Simplicity", today! Woohoo!

I'm not expecting great scores but hey, you never know ;-)

Hi GoodEnd- as mentioned at the very top of the very first post, the original link is no longer valid. The new link is here: //titoi.com/photos/14words/index.html

It would appear lots of people are still trying to access the old link even though I edited the original post. Oh well.

Curious about my job? Why's that? I produce commercials for radio.
