Holden Monaro is the Equivalent of the Pontiac GTO.
The Vauxhall VXR8 looks like one of pontiacs other newer cars that im not sure was released yet wasnt aware they had revised a Sedan off of Coupe Stampings?
EDIT - The Vauxhall VXR8's equivalent is the Pontiac G8.

Hmm ok new budget i need some cars for, seems im only really qualified for $10,000, i have roughly $2000 of my own, so put together some cars for around $10-12,000cad (8,500-10,000usd) same specs or close to them. |

This is our beast. Not quite within your price range and definitely not cheap on the gas but a helluva lot of fun!! And that's what really counts right?? :)

Are you looking at buying brand new, or used? |

Do you have any specifics on what you want? i.e. wagon, or good on gas, or only import? |

I think he was pretty damn specific on that end.
Seems he doesnt care Import or DOmestic (i guess if Canada considers north American cars as domestic) He said he was looking at the Camaro's Gas mileage versus his Cavalier. The Camaro V8 depeding on year doing 17/25 to 19/28 in EPA estimates depending upon year.
Looks like gas mileage is a bit of a concern and it seems he wants Performance for his buck leaving out new cars.
No Wagon, Gas Mileage might be a compromise, Import or Domestic doesnt matter if it bangs up asphault
Thats the impresion i get from Post #1

Around $10,000-12,000 CAD ($8500-10,000USD)
One ive considered is a 97-99 Camaro, they have pretty good gas milage for a v8 |

I say, look for 2002 Impreza WRX. The only downside is it's only rated for ~23mpg in the city, ~27 highway.
I guess you'll be financing through a car lot? If that's the case, my vote is for Subaru Impreza Outback Sport. 165hp 4 cyl. they get about the same mileage as the WRX. If you look into the 2002 Impreza OBS, check and see if the headgasket has been replaced recently. Some 2.5L engines had a probl. with them.
The 2.0L WRX engine is pretty reliable. And the WRX is pretty peppy. As with any turbo, though, premium gas is a must. It's expensive. The OBS has good pep to it. |

Don't know how long they have been on the market in he US, but how about a 2nd hand Volkswagen GTI. (We call them Golf GTI (they got a zillion varieties, from simple fourcilinders to the VR6) in Europe).

Monaros have 2 doors, not 4. This looks more like a clubsport, good stuff.

Ah, i didn't know bout the premium gas part, thats no good, i have a hard enough time keeping the car topped up atm lol. Ok so for now that car is not an option. Any other ideas for in my price range (reminder, its now roughly $10-12,000 (possibly $15,000 if i sell my current car))

DRIVE LIKE AN OLD LADY...
If you want a fast car, then you will probably drive it fast.
Fast = more fuel.
More fuel = less MPG! |

Well, the 2000 camaro gets the same mpg as a subaru. You could get an 2000 Impreza (non-wagon) with 165hp. Pretty perky. Of course, you could always buy a modded civic. hehe. |

Y pipe is an exhaust part. Typicaly its either because you have a V6 and are running aingle exhaust or your really ricy and want to put a dual full exhaust on your 4 banger. X Pipes would of course be for 8 and 6 cylinders with Dual exhaust that cross over.
