Steve, you have RUN them. I have sorta jogged them...

I'm just hoping I wont be crawling this one.

Me too. The weather looks like it may cooperate. Should be cooling off by the time we're hiking up the trail, and hopefully the prediction for clear skies will hold up.

So I shouldn't really bring my 70-300? Hmmm.
Should I even bother with my kit lens? Besides my 70-300, I only have my 50mm and my kit lens.

And besides, Fritz, aren't you going to be wearing you infamous cargo shorts with lenses in every pocket? :P

I really wish I could be there... Have fun, but keep a close eye out for buzzworms!!! This is the time of year you see a lot of them.

Isn't your kit lens the 18-55mm? That will likely be your best lens for the evening being the widest one I see on your profile.

The 70-300 might be good if you see some animals on the way up or if you want to get some compressed sunsets or something. I guess it's all a matter of how much you want to hoof up. :)

Do you have a backpack or carrying case for your gear? Do you have a tripod you can bring along? If you want to get some shots at night you are gonna need one or at least find a good rock to put it on...

Not yet, I've been scrambling to try to find it. If nothing else, I guess I can run and get a cheap tripod from Best Buy. =\

I have an extra light weight Manfrotto I will bring for you to use. You don't have to go buy anything.

Still looks sunny and clear. I'm looking forward to this because sometimes I get too caught up in taking pictures to gab too much. Here we can do both as a long exposure will take minutes to take and then minutes to write as the auto noise reduction kicks in.

My only question is do I charge my battery to the full and just go for a nice 30-40 minute exposure. It would be a funny GTG to come out with one picture...

Heh, I got more than one. But you can't change them during the exposure... :)

Now I'm worried my camera won't get the job done, mine only goes up to 30 second exposures, I believe...

I think you can put it into bulb mode and that exposure can be as long as you want it to be. In bulb mode you push the shutter release once to open it and again to close it. How long you take to do that is up to you. :-)

I am pretty sure. Put it into manual mode and turn the shutter speed dial until it says bulb.

The only problem is if you don't have a wired or wireless remote. Then you have to hold your finger on the shutter button. That doesn't work too well for the old hand and shaking the camera.

However, you may be in luck and I may have an old remote in my bag for my old 300D. IF I have it and IF you don't have one, it's yours...

Mmmm...bad luck. I don't see it. Well, IF you don't have one, I would suggest you try to pick one up at Best Buy. The RC-1 remote (or whatever) runs about $25 so it isn't bad and it does come in handy a lot. The fact that the 5D doesn't take a cheap wireless remote is one of the few things I don't like about it.

I have both a shutter release cable and a remote, so I'm fine. :)
And bulb mode works! :D

Laura hasn't been around on the forums any this last week...
I e-mailed her about today and no response...

It's not looking good--if she doesn't go, I can't go, she's my ride. =\
